I thought this was a bad joke when I first heard it. Spirit is planning on charging $45 for each carry on back placed in the overhead. The only carry on that will be allowed for free must fit under your seat.

I emailed the company and told them I am canceling my Spirit Card and the $9 club Memebership. Enough people need to get up in arms about this. If Spirit gets away with it the rest will follow!

LOL US airlines are a joke.
So they charge you to check luggage in, then people start packing rational and they decide to try and phuck them over as well.

Then everyone begins flying with non North American carriers, or the few who are not mentally handicapped and they all go bankrupt, only for tax dollars to bail them out :?

I refuse to fly any airline that charges for carry-on luggage and I avoid any airline that charges for luggage, period.

JMac is absolutely correct. US airlines are a joke. I avoid US airlines by all means possible when traveling internationally. Unfortunately, when traveling within the US, the joke is on us.

I would rather walk than fly Spirit ! Being a discount carrier they do have a cheap passenger base that attempts to carry on bags that would not fit in their mobile homes. My only flight with them was a horrible experience everyone just jammed in the plain.

Actually, the prices, I believe, will be $40 at the gate, and $25 if you pre-pay online. That's the last straw, as far as I am concerned! I've flown them five times the past year, but never again. What a joke...they claim to be a 'discount' airline, but with all of their fees, they are more expensive than most other airlines, for the same routes. For example, they wanted $500 to fly from Tampa to San Jose the last week in May. And that is not counting the baggage and seat assignment fees. American Airlines price was only $366 total (no baggage fees). So, counting the fees, Spirit was about $200 more expensive than American. I used to fly Spirit because they had better departure and arrival times out of Tampa, but American recently changed their times, so they are now just as good as Spirit's. I predict Spirit will be out of business in another year.

Agreed....Spirit is gonna probably be looking to get bought up. They advertise low "base" prices but by the time you get done with seat assignment ($10-$20) each depending on location....and if theres a connecting flight you need to start multiplying, baggage fees, taxes, etc...you end up paying more than some other airlines! We've been flying out of Atlantic City, which is a true pleasure since its so small....but I agree, gonna cancel all memberships and Credit Card with Spirit. Truly hope others join the cause. What I also found unusual is that the base fares may be cheaper out of AC, but the taxes and airport fees are higher than those out of Philly! Go figure.

To add insult to injury, we just returned from CR on 3/31. Were supposed to return 3/30. Spirit really phucked us over. We arrive to the gate about 1 hr 15min prior to take off. We're told that their Security Immigration folks have left a bit early since the holiday was coming and they denied our boarding! These "security" guys only check to make sure you paid the exit tax, I think. So we're standing in an empty line at the gate. There's 4-5 employees behind the counter and they never even acknowledged us until we spoke up after about 10-15 min waiting!

Long story short....they refused our boarding, would only give us "stand by" for the next 3 days and wanted to charge $125 each for a re-booking fee. We were forced to purchase round trip tix from American which flew into Philly, which wasnt a problem, but our cars were in Atlantic City....thank god for friends!

I guess things could have been worse....thankfully we werent trapped in Iowa for an extra night!!!
