I checked out the new Sleep Inn behind the Colonial on Wednesday, July the 18th. The room rates were $70-80 plus tax. Here is the deal killer, they have a $30 chica fee. |

Hummmmm.....I would say the Presidente and the DR don't have a thing to worry about. I think the chica fee at the Holiday Inn is only 25 bucks. Berk...... |

The RUMOR has always been that the Hotel was only built to ensure the Colonial could keep their casino license. The HOPE had always been that they would provide real competition for the Del Rey. A $30.00 chica fee seems to dash the hope and confirm the rumor ![]() |

$30.00 per chica or $30.00 per day for guests? Do they drop the fee if you play in the casino? |

It kind of makes sense, Sleep Inn is an international chain. I don't think renting out to mongers would fit to well image wise. |

YO Hotel Hoppers: Damn, I'm going to stay glued to the help wanted ads in SJ publications as to job opening "marketing director for new local hotel." These people are not that stupid.....there is definitely a reason for the high room and chica rates. I am assuming that these are not Jr. suites but rooms for $70 - $80 plus taxes & arm long other charges.......friends, we are talking close to a CIEN per night. They may be going after the non-sexual (looking for strange) tourists and business people. Yet, unless this is a curtain drop for the casino license (which is one hell of a damn investment) why would they open this hotel up in the belly of the beast.......can we say "GULCH." Hate to say this but if the place survives and gets near 90% booked consistantly........Uh Oh, watch out other hotel rate increases......NAWWW.....I hope. On the positive side. Hell, at least now old Circus can find a room bed that has not been phucked in.......along with the one I have here in the Pits of Jax. |

Wouldnt it be great though to pay 150 bucks and march 5 del rey girls in there. The look on peoples faces would be priceless. Im sure alot of people will get stuck staying here when they dont know any better. Its kinda like the Balmoral I think they charge 20 and they are closer then the Presidente to the DR. Surfdog |

Yes, that's disappointing. I guess your post means its officially up & running now. I have to wonder why they would build such a large hotel if it was just to keep the casino license. Looked to me to be at least 100 rooms on 3 floors. Maybe they will draw some of the eco tourists out of the Prez and we will be able to get rooms easier over there. Anyone know if they have a web site? Last time I tried to find a site for them I came up empty, except for the corporate "Sleep Inn" site, and that wouldn't call up the San Jose property. |

Hey Gopher, To answer your question, the Colonial probably didn't build the hotel, once the law was passed requiring a hotel for them to operate they probably just made a deal to make the land available for a hotel operator or franchise to come in and build and operate. |

Sleep Inn is part of the Choice Hotel Group. Here is the link to the Sleep Inn San Jose webpage: http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-us/html/HotelInfo?sid=cAZS.59k6ggYGP.6&hotel=CR013&sarea=2751&sname=San+Jose&sstate=&scountry=CR&sradius=40.22&slat=9.933300018310547&slon=-84.08329772949219&schain=Z&exp=&scity=San+Jose&sort=&nadult=1&nchild=0. I'm pretty sure this is the place. They list the address as Avenida 3, Calle 11 Frente al Parque Morazan. The property description as "Located in the heart of San Jose, within walking distance of the National Theatre, Gold Museum and Jade Museum. The hotel is located in front of Espana Park and Morazan Park and 1 minute from downtown's oldest school. Restaurants and night life within walking distance. Casino Club Colonial and Magnolia restaurant adjacent." The map on that site shows the hotel as being located closer to the Museo de Ninos area ![]() Oh yeah, the standard rates they listed were between $90-100, although they also had govt/military rates as low as $69. I suspect they will discount heavily still further if they find few takers at those rates. And of course no mention of what the chica rates would be on the corporate website. |

Surfdog The building may be close but the walk is the same! Quote: It kind of makes sense, Sleep Inn is an international chain. I don't think renting out to mongers would fit to well image wise. The sleep Inn is going after corporate and family tourists and does charge a ridiculously fee for guests. I think with the increase of American tourists visiting CR they may attract business but repeat business will be different, once people realize this hotel is in Gringo Gulch and across from where the trannies hang out. ![]() Quote: The map on that site shows the hotel as being located closer to the Museo de Ninos area ? and the hotel pictures show expansive grounds and grand fountains in front of the hotel which is hard to conceive of in the limited downtown area where they are located.
The Grand Fountains in the photos are in the park across the street which has been there for many years.....same area where the trannies hang! ![]() |
