I was wondering about flying thru Miami airport on route to SJO from Canada. Do I have to go thru US customs & immigration for a stop over when getting a connecting flight on AA? Must admit not a big traveler, mostly just within Canada.

YES you must clear customs, but they have a special customs area for International Connections that is usually fast and easy...

Depending which Canadian city you are leaving from you may well clear US Customs and Immigration BEFORE you leave Canada, I know for sure that Calgary/Toronto/Vancouver all pre clear this side of the border.

Hi Koppite, yes I would fly out of Toronto. Was wondering the new procedure since I have not been thru the US since 9/11.

You may find the process a little slower than before 9/11 but I have never had a problem here in Calgary. In fact the US guys here make our Canadian Customs/Immig. people look like Gestapo interrogators.
