Here we go up in price again.
Checking this morning on Delta's site, Atlanta to San Jose roundtrip is $883 for July 4th weekend and $713 for Labor Day weekend.
Ouch.

For buying a ticket less than a week out, that's a decent fare.

Labor Day, ya, that's steep.

Unfortunatelly with the price of oil at $60 / barrel the airlines are trying to make money where they can. And since they can't seem to do so in the domestic market, they are trying to make up for it on international routes.

And Latin America has some of the highest fares / miles flown :x

Over the past month or so, American will post a 24 hour special from Houston to Costa Rica, then Delta will immediatly match. I got in on a fare that was $400 drive out, the next night it was gone. That has happened twice more.

Over the past week Continental has gone from $560 to $580 to $600 drive out ($600 is the current fare).

Actually CO raised prices by $20 each way on many longer flights Friday, just like they did last Friday, along with several other airlines. If all or most all will match over the weekend, the price increase will stick, if not, the price will come down Monday, as it did after last weekend.

US Air is trying to stay alive, so they offer ridiculous prices every once in a while, and sometimes some of the other carriers match the price. I've seen $218+ r/t from Dallas about a month or two ago.

But I wouldn't look for too many price breaks till school starts again. Just my huble opinion, which I may well be forced to eat  ...... again.

Post subject:  DFW fare at $283 +tax thread...

Was talking to a friend in the Dallas area last night. Unbelievably good fare right now at $283 +tax. Continental. Travel Mon-Thurs.

Post subject:  Ah, the flying without the "hub penalty"

The same flight, well, the same flight without the connecting flight to IAH, costs a LOT more because IAH (where the flight originating in Dallas connects) is a CO hub, and CO has no competition here.

On the exit tax, EVERY country in Centroamerica has it. Thailand has it, Philippines have it; it's not as uncommon as you may think. It's irritating, but let's face it, it won't stop you from coming back

Has anyone written to the CR government (I've meant to, but haven't) about the notion of including the exit tax on the ticket? It irritates everyone... and almost every other country I've traveled to (perhaps 25 or so) includes exit tax on the air fare.

Every airline that serves Costa Rica, every tour wholesaler, every travel agent, the CR Tourist Bureau have tried to get the tax included in the price of the ticket that the traveler pays.

CR authorities have a simple answer............ NO

Let me think about that, which would you prefer, pay an extra $20.00 when you leave the country (which is rare) or not have to pay the $20.00 and not live in Paradise?

Wow, what a tough question
