I am reserved for Hotel Morazon per Carina. I faxed her front and back of my Visa card along with their completed application for reservation. $49 (Includes Taxes) per night per room for 5 nights. My friend, Doctor Lawrence Norquest will accompany me this trip. It is his first trip to Costa Rica and I don't want problems so I asked Carina to fax a conmfirmation to me. She was surprised but agreed. That was at 8:00 A.M. this morning. I haven't received it yet. I have read postings indicating problems with Hotel Morazon reservations. Suggestions/Advice? Thanks In Advance.

With the morazan, don't fret... they should take care of you... get the confirmation # they give you, and call to confirm the day before you depart with your #, if they do mess up they will put you at one of their other properties.

I have read horror stories in the past myself, but I am 10+ time vet of the morazan, never had a problem.

After two days I did not receive the written confirmation promised by Karina so I called back again to Hotel Morazon. I spoke with Estaban Sanz and he faxed a handwritten confirmation of my reservation. It is all handwritten. Not a form. Not even on their letterhead. I will take the advice given and will call to confirm again the day before I am to arrive.

If they screw you go to the Hotel Europa which is owned by the same group but is heads and tails more reliable although five blocks away. They usually have rooms. Also good reports on the Hotel Gran Via.

Frankly I do not trust anybody who asks for the front and back of my credit card. Ask if they are going to precharge it and how much.

Sorry for your pain with them.

Let us know what happens.

They do not precharge. They only take the info so they can hold your reservation (and charge you in the event you are a no show). At least they never precharged me whenever I stayed there. Their policies may have changed, but I doubt it.

This is off season. You probably don't need any reservation at all unless you're staying at a more popular hotel, which the Morazon no longer seems to be. In the event your reservation does get screwed up, at this time of year you'll be able to find another room elsewhere. If you're rstill eally worried, check on vacancies at some back-up hotels before you go (just don't make any reservations). It may be a bit of a pain to go looking for another hotel in the slim chance your reservation gets fouled up but if you have a list of alternatives, your pain should not be that great.

I did as suggested and insisted upon wrtitten confirmation and then telephoned the day before arriving. No problem. I enjoyed my stay. The whole Hotel smells of cigarette smoke (different subject) but is clean and comfortable. I am booked for another stay in the near future.

Sometimes a $5 charge for chicas. Make friends with the staff and it's no charge. I'm still positive they charged me $5 to bring King Costa to my room. But, at least he didn't charge me cien. LOL J/K KC.

Walk is less than 45 seconds door to door.

Stayed at the morazon this past week and everything worked out just fine. No Tica fee's. But always check first. TWO TICAS are allowed. :D Spoke with Ricardo about Laborday weekend, $40 a Night includes breakfast & taxes. Can't beat that even here in the states. One block north of the DR, A little scary late at night with all the peddlers around. Just walk with one eye behind you, Just in case if your alone. The Shoeshine guy will walk with you if he's around for your pocket change. He likes to shine sneakers too. LOL

Some clarifications:
    1) Its no scarier walking the 50yds to the Morazon after dark than it is anywhere else (e.g. the KL or Prez). The problem is the characters you pick up right outside the HDR's doors.
    2) Its a block WEST. Going north will take you into Morazon Park. Staying in the park is even cheaper than $40 but also a whole lot scarier.
    3) They used to have a $39/nt including breakfast but taxes were extra. Are you sure about the taxes being included? Or do we need to ask for the "ZORO discount" when we go there? fuggedabowtit. 8)

The Morazon USED to be the hottest hotel to stay at (ahead of the Prez, before it was remodeled and before the SL even existed). Unfortunately, they occassionally overbooked and/or screwed up reservations and they lost favor (a certain dickhead had a hand in it too). Since everyone switched to staying at the Prez, which is now the one that is always fully booked, I don't think the Morazon fills up nearly as often. Has anyone here booked at the Morazon anytime in the past year and had a problem with their reservation not being honored? Barring huge crowds suddenly descending on them, the Morazon at $10/nt less than the Prez may be the Gulch's best kept secret deal.

I actually like the Morazon. The room was decent, it was a reasonable rate, very close to the Del Rey AND I got a room with very little lead time. In fact, I think I only gave one day notice last December during Festival of the Lights.

I also have enjoyed staying at the Morazan. I like Room 501, which is a junior suite, corner room with a balcony and a jacuzzi in the bano. The first time I stayed at the Morazan they put me in a 'regular'/standard room which I did not like. It felt about the size of a large closet. The full-length mirror on the wall was only about a foot away from the end of the bed. If you're staying at the Morazan, ask for a junior suite. The last I knew, they were about $75 or $80 per night.

Hola Prolijo, Sorry guys the discount isn't thru ZORO. I just mentioned the discount because everwhere else seems booked for the Laborday weekend. Ricardo just hung a sign outside the morning I left $35 a night taxes extra. He mentioned to me any of your friends to call rate would be $40. a night W/breakfast & Taxes Included. The breakfast was very good. Of course it is hard to beat the Presidenti on there food. But this was close. You mentioned the hotel was west not north, Your right, When on vacation it is easy to loose sence of direction after leaving the DR If you know what I mean. LOL I am in no means promoting this hotel, But my stay was great there hospitality was above and beyond. By the way Prolijo, Lets get a Tampa Charter Meeting going before Laborday weekend.

I stayed at the Morazan once and it was fine. At the time, the Prez was undergoing updates, and the noise was an issue. I liked the beds and the TV's better in the Morazan and the resturant was better at the Prez. I like either one as well as the other.
