All I wanted was to stay at the DR and hang out at the BM and being the usual moron I am I waited until the last second and they are all booked up. Im going June 9th and waited until today to try. Can anyone give me some advise on where to stay, Im really bummed I wanted a place where I could find the best looking ticas around and bring right to the room. Is there any place that even compares?

That may turn out to be the luckiest thing to happen to you out of your entire trip. You sound like the typical guy who knows very little about CR beyond having heard "You've got to stay at the HDR. That place is THE place to go for hot chicas". Most guys who have been to CR and know better, feel that there are much nicer places to stay and much hotter chicas to meet at other places. Next time you have a question try scanning the titles of various threads for relevant info first and then either check out those threads or do a search using some of the names you have seen in the thread titles. There have been numerous and recent hotel review threads on many of the more popular alternatives on this board including the Presidente, Hotel Amon Plaza, Sportsmans Lodge, Hotel Castillo, even the old Morazon which is literally no more than 30 yards from the front door of the HDR (what you'll save on chica fees alone by taking that longer walk will pay for an extra MP session each day). And do yourself a huge favor, whereever you end up staying, check out some other places besides the BM.

Coincidentally, check out this post in another thread that just happened to be made around the same time as this thread came up http://www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6583&start=4

Grey Ghost,

http://www.granhotelcostarica.com/

That is the web address of the Gran Hotel Costa Rica. One of the most chica unfriendly hotels in San Jose.

Think what you meant was The Gran Via Hotel. There web address is:

www.hgranvia.com

To the best of my knowledge, they are not taking guests yet.

Cygnus,
There have been many post here that ZB wants to start having a hotel operation. I do not know if the construction going on is part of that plan or incidental to their long range plan.

The plan is however to have a ZB hotel.

Hi Firsttimer,

Excellent advice here, read carefully the advice of experienced guys like Prolijo and Ding Dong, as they really know what they're talking about.

As you're in a hurry, I won't repeat the old "read the forum, friend" mantra.

You probably haven't figured out yet that HDR is Ground Zero, but that many of the hotels suggested here are within a very short walking distance to the HDR/BM: Morazan, El Presidente, Hotel Gran Via are all within a stone's throw of the front door of the HDR...well, at least within a few blocks.

Others, like the Sportsmen's Lodge and Amon Plaza are a little farther away, but are still within a $1.20/500 colones cab ride.

Working girls are found all over San Jose, and as you will learn quickly from reading this forum, quality and quantity vary widely from time to time at each location. You can also scout for love at the Monkey Bar, New York Bar and other traditional pick-up spots, including the Key Largo nightclub (right across the parking lot from the HDR). You can find a sort of massage parlor/bar hybrid in Bar Iden. Highly-reviewed nightclubs such as Kamur, Pantera Rosa and La Grillion give you a chance to see the ladies with less clothing, then make a date with the chica of your choice.

Regardless of where you stay, if the hotel is chica-friendly and doesn't charge a ridiculous "guest fee" for bringing a chica to your room, you'll be fine. One other hotel that hasn't yet been mentioned here is the Europa (downtown, not the Radisson of the same name), the Hotel Castillo and several others. Check the forum to find out if others have described a particular hotel as "chica-friendly;" some hotels near Gringo Gulch are not.

Read, read, read. Use the search function and read some more. Then, if you have more questions, go ahead and ask.

BTW, you'll find lots of chicas who aren't ticas. You'll find nicas, colombianas, and dominicanas and cubanas. "Ticas" are Costa Rican native chicas. :)

Hope this helps. If I were you, I'd try to get a room at the Presidente; very close to the action, nice modern place, really great cafe, and chica friendly. Great newbie spot, which is also favored by many board members here. Good luck!
