Hello gentlemen,

After the 2nd Anniversary party (wherever that may be...), I'll be heading to Dominical via San Isidro de el General, also known as Perez Zeladon. Wondering if any veterans know of a decent hotel there for around USD$20.00 - $30.00/night? Chica-friendliness is not an issue, as I will be traveling with a female friend, who will join me the Monday after the party and travel with me to the Pacific coast. No, she is not invited to the party... :P :D
Any info on S. Isidro and Dominical is sincerely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure why you would want to stay in San Isidro as Dominical is about 45 minutes through the mountain range.

Although there are many small and inexpensive hotels, the lodgings are generally spartan (at best).

Where do you stay in Dominical?

The Rio Mar is a nice, older hotel along el Rio Baru: flat and easy to traverse terrain, great restaurant, nice wading pool. Except for along the beaches the Dominical area is fairly mountainous (is that a word?).

Anyhow, good luck on your travels.

I'm actually renting a house just a bit south of Dominical during July---5000 sq. feet---about 5 acres---waterfalls on the property--$300 p/night---this place looks incredible.

El Ciego,

Just push on through to Dominical, as Eljefe said it is only another 45 minutes. I stayed in one of the cabina places in Dominical right on the beach and @$45/night (with GF), I found it to be no bargain; bare bones in comfort. Moved a block inland to the Diuwak and for $65/night had a beautiful room with beautifully landscaped grounds and a nice pool. Right next door is a convenience store with all the necessaries also.
For good, inexpensive food and drink walk all the way to the south end of the beach (250 yds.) and you will find a tico-run restaurant/bar that has excellent grub (fabulous ceviche!) and ice cold cerveza or cocktails (they were making them good and strong too) :D
Any questions just PM me.

Pax,
Sluthog

Now lets not downplay San Isidro too quickly here gents 8) . While I have not stayed there over night, I have passed through and couple times and have talked to adventurous members here who have had a nice time in that nice city. It is probably cheaper to stay there, MORE restaurants and bars to choose from...and reportedly 3-1 ratio of women to men. I have spotted many hotties every time I drive through there and have made a note to self to try a bachelors weekend there sometime  . It's also much COOLER weather than Dominical beach.

Dominical on the other hand...I just dont get. Mostly surfers, expensive places for what you get, and not much night life. Ah well...to each their own. Maybe I missed something?

I have stayed in San Isidro overnight and there are in fact some great looking chicas there .Walking the streets and chica watching is fun.It is a nice town and big enough to have some action. There are a couple of clubs and a disco which I hear is hopping on weekends.A decent clean basic place to stay is Hotel Chirrippo on the square. It is about a $20 cab fare to Dominical which is a great place if you are a surfer or care to hike in the hills but not much else there. It was real quite the night I was at Dominical. In fact the power was out most of the evening. It is a remote place and the beach is fair but kind of rocky and nothing special.I hear there may be better beaches a bit farther South.I very well may revisit San Isidro in July closer to the weekend and see what is going on.There is always the tico girl bar which is sure thing.rbc100

gents,

I was asking about S. Isidro for two reasons.

First, I'll be staying with friends in Dominical, but I'll have a couple days either side of our scheduled visit, and I thought I'd like to explore S. Isidro a little.

2. I'm on a budget. After spending something like ten days in San Jose, including meeting some of you before and during the Anniversary party...and I'll be pretty broke by Sept. 5th; I thought S. isidro would be a better place to spend a couple days than the beach itself.

You'll notice I asked for hotel recommendations in the $20.00 range; Sluthog's reply was a $65.00/night hotel in Dominical! Can't do that. Thanks RBC for the Hotel Churripo recommendation.

At 50,000 people, San Isidro is large enough for some modern creature comforts, but it's still small enough to be more accessible. I'm eager to check it out.

Thanks all! :)

Here is a great link for Domical.

http://www.dominical.biz/

It contians links to all of the hotels and cabinas in the town. Some as low as $10 per night for a bunk house. I'll be staying in the town the week of July 3rd.

Anyone else going that week?

Anyone know what the story with the ladies is?

Seems like Hotel Chirripo was $12 a night or so in San Isidro. It was basic but adequate with good high pressure hot water.Worked for me.rbc100
