Has anyone stayed or have info on the Hotel Kekoldi? http://www.kekoldi.com/kekoldi_sj/index.php

It looks nice and has decent prices.

One of the reasons I ask is because I heard through another monger that it is a hotel for gays.

Just for the record I am going to CR for the beautiful Ticas!!!

Thanks for any info.

I've heard the exact same thing. If you still don't believe it do a web search and see how many references to gays you get when you check the reviews or see Kekoldi regular mention of its being "gay friendly" in all its ad copy.

I checked one "gay" link http://www.rainbowtravelcostarica.com/hotel.htm and it listed Kekoldi as 1 of only 2 hotels it recommends in SJ (the other being "Colours"). Even mainstream review sites make regular mention of its gayness. Here are 2 of the first 3 reviews at tripadvisor.com. "A nice little gay hotel," says one. "Gay friendly--but definitely not all-gay," says another but then goes on to say that the other guests were a large family and a group of 4 women from Canada (hardly the types of people that would appreciate our type) and that a couple of the gays were a little offended that it wasn't all gay. Fodor's one review was even more interesting. Evidentally this couple had made a similar mistake as you. Here is what they had to say:

When we drove up to this hotel in the evening, the block surrounding it was... lively. It was lined on all four sides with many men standing around watching, talking and doing business with what we at first thought were female prostitutes. They were transvestite male prostitutes and were very aggressively seeking business. Some were waiting in the dark area just at the foot of the stairs into the hotel, looking hopefully at our cab. There was no open building or even a light on in the other buildings around the hotel for as far as the eye could see, so we concluded that the prostitutes do business in the Hotel Kekoldi. Our cabbie took us someplace different, saying that this hotel has a well-known local reputation as a place for gatherings of people interested in the prostitutes.

....Then again you may not mind having gay neighbors. Have a fabulous time

It is in a nice area, between NF and ZB. I've walked past it during the daytime on many occasions, but never knew anyone staying there, or been inside. It always seems to have tour busses around.

Exactly Jay. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay. We just don't want to to stay at a "gay hotel". We love the ticas!

I like bars that have some gays, since there are many gay folks who are hilarious. However, when I'm the only straight person in a sizable group, I tend to get a little uncomfortable. Uptight sexual bigots hate us too. There are a lot of people who are in dread that somebody else is having more fun than they are, and who want to throw them all in jail for being different.
