My friend and I are coming down next month for the first time and need a little advice. We are thinking that the first 24 hours (Thursday morning through checkout Friday) we would be in SJ...probably get no sleep. Then we are thinking to take a trip down to Jaco and MA for Friday night and most of Sat. Then fly down to Drake and dive at Cano Island Sunday and maybe Monday. Then head back to SJ to spend the last 24 or so hours. We have 5 nights and want to make the most of it. How to fill in time in Jaco and MA is the question. Will it be worth ot or will we just be thinking about getting back to SJ? Where would you stay in Jaco or MA? Is flying between MA area and Drake feasible? Thanks |

I suspect you are both young and loaded with ambition. The agenda you mention would leave me in the dust. SJ to Jaco (by bus) will take 2-5 hrs, depending on the service you use. Checking in and getting situated will eat up additional time. That will take your Friday away. Jaco to MA will take 1.5-4 hrs. Same shit as Friday, and Saturday is done. You can fly from Quepos to SJ then out to Puerto Jimenez, find a room, get your bearings and . . . ooops, Sunday is gone. Head out very early to dive at Canos (expensive run) 3.5 hours out and 3.5 hrs back (if your boat is fast) and there goes Monday. With any luck at all you should be able to get back to SJ in time to check-in at the airport on Tuesday. Hope you have a ball. |
