I just found out after doing much research that the hotel Pres. is full. What's the second choice? I thought staying there would be good because of the short walk to the DR.

Yea just found out myself, but then again they have the old side of the hotel with 3 floors totally under construction so your looking at only about 60% available..

I was told that they hope to have everything done by June. then again TICO TIME, somehow I feel they are going to be on time.

Some big improvements though... All though I dont think anyone has ever had a security issue there. here are some of the upgrades coming!

They are adding new electronic security boxes large enough for a laptops. They’ll be complimentary.

(The rooms they are rebuilding will get them now, the rest of the hotel in in July).
THEY are adding a small gym, Min Jr. suites with Jacuzzis, suites with balconies,

A sports lounge is almost ready.

More to follow.

IMHO. Sportsman´s Lodge should be the 1st Choice, with the Presidente 2nd. If neither of these is available, there are numerous others in the area, including the Morzon, Gran Via, and Del Rey being the most viable.

Will this be accomplished by early June? After my April voyage I'll be down early June.

OPPS! Sorry I cut and pasted the comments from the GM to me and forgot to make the change...

I ONLY WISH I HAD A PIECE OF THE PREZ!!! But alas I'm just a monger just like you guys!

To Dapanza comments, The New Large safes for Laptops will be in all the new rooms in June, And the end of July for the rest of the Hotel.... I think it said that in the original post.

I made reservations with Ray at The Sportsman for the first night and the last night, two rooms each night. This was last week and I still don't have any kind of confirmation. Is this normal? I sent them an email but still have not heard anything.

The Hotel Europa is another option. I flew into SJO on an impulse :P  without reservations. Everything was full except the Europa.

Nice rooms with great balcony over looking the swimming pool. Good Restaurant with room service, and Bar. Chica friendly. No fee. Downtown SJO. West of DR North of Prez. East of 747. I took cabs at night.

They had a Hotel Park like show on Friday and Saturday. Don't know if that is still going on.

Most of the other people staying there were on one form of eco like tour or another. It was usually kind of quiet at night.

Rate was $50.

Presidente also full for May 1st arrival. Great advice on Sportsman's Lodge, looks great, but is it chica friendly? I hate paying off the hotel to get the girl in. Heard that the Morzon, Gran Vida were no pay no hassle.

BTW, anyone there Sunday night May 1st - would love to meet up for a night out. Bringing my buddy who is a CR virgin, but I introduced him to the DR recently.

Leche,

Sportsmen's couldn't be more chica friendly. No chica fee, no sign-in, and no hassles with bringing in two, three or however many you can handle. In fact, most afternoons and evenings working girls are available right there in the bar.

The only caveats I would mention (as I stated previously in my review) are that after the bar closes up and its lights out, it can look kind of dark and forbidding to any chica who isn't already familiar with the place (and there still seems to be quite a few in this category). Since most of my sessions last trip were off site, this wasn't an issue for me.

The other thing is that - though some recent events may be proving me wrong on this - you really shouldn't get too crazy in your room, as sound carries quite efficiently through the hard-tiled courtyard in the center of the facility.

Finally, I think a newbie - especially if not accompanied by a vet - would be better off staying in the gulch on a first trip - i.e., the Del Rey, Presidente or Morazon, for the proximity to the major action.
