Shit...they started taking my lighters 3-4 months ago. Where will it end? No more shoe laces because you might strangle someone? No more eating utincils on board...eat with your hands...cause that butter knife is a lethal weapon. ARGH!!!

It IS good for the lighter industry though. You have to buy a new one each destination

I am a smoker and have going through security down to a science as I always go and suck up a couple ‘coffin nails’ at the stops. Hey if four books of matches won’t get you through then you smoke way too much or can’t light a match.

If that bomber would’ve had any degree of intelligence and used a lighter he probably would’ve set the Phucking Shoe off. Maybe this new rule ain’t such a bad thing…

What an earth we live in eh’…I gained a new perspective on the world during my brief ‘marriage’ to that Israeli gal. She wouldn’t have thought twice about a rule like this.

I just returned from Rio on AA this morning. Breakfast on these flights are little more than a Red Cross WW2 POW aid meal. Dinner is still OK but I think from now on, I'll be bringing my own food aboard, and a big bottle of water (to drink and to wash when I go to the "bathroom").

How are MRE's? There's bound to be an army surplus store nearby.

I was given a lighter this morning by someone who was flying out, they'd brought their lighter with them and would have thrown it away otherwise.

Bing...a new idea on the biz plan. Have a stakeout at the airline baggage check and help security discard all those DANGEROUS lighters. Then, move them quickly to a small counter or sidewalk stand where people are coming out of customs having had their lighters confiscated before coming in...local replacement lighter service. We can also offer guarenteed buy back of the lighter when they leave...at 25 cents on the dollar . I guess we might as well sell Cuban and CR cigars there while we're at it. The profit in lighters would be huge .

O.K Tman , me likes the way you think , only problem who's gonna be huffing them stairs , maybe next happy hour your at , find the chica with the biggest hooters in the place and offer her a propina for her bra. Gonna need atleast a 44DDD I'll wait down below the departure terminal and you can drop the lighters over the rail and i'll catch dem suckers in the bra Your Cigar & rebate thing has potential too

I always carry a flask full of fine rum and get a free coke to mix it with.
Most airlines recently raised their prices on in-flight alcoholic beverages.
The next thing you know, they'll be charging for the soft drinks. I try to be discreet, as from what I understand, you're not supposed to consume your own alcoholic beverages in-flight. F*ck them. I'd be interested to know...has anyone actually been told that it is not allowed to consume your own alcoholic beverages?

I don't smoke so the lighter rule means nothing to me.

I gave up trying to find the regulations on consuming your own alcohol on board but my personal view would be to be discreet. I did find this:

Carrying-on Alcohol as a safety hazzard:
Alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, are prohibited from carry-on and checked luggage. Up to 5 liters of alcohol with alcoholic content between 24% and 70% are allowed per person as carry-on or checked luggage if packaged in its retail container. Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcoholic content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations.

Please check with your airline for any further restrictions.

Why should Federal law have anything to do with serving drinks on airplanes? If the airlines wants to allow BYOB...why not? THis shit drives me crazy.
