Post subject: | Going with female friend |
I plan to go to San jose with a female friend. I will get there a couple of days before she does then she will join me. I am thinking of staying at the Europa or Castillo but I'm not sure what to do when she gets there. I was thinking of a nice b&B with lots of people to talk to and plan the rest of the trip. Even some of the hostals look nice but she would not want to share a room with other people. Does anyone have any ideas. We will be on a tight budget. Then we will head to the beach etc. I was thinking of taking her to some place like the blue marlin if that is cool. Do stright females go in there are there? |

My last trip was March 31st to April 6th and I saw 3-4 gringo couples in BM, one of the women was saying "This place is cool" and the CRT guys said plenty of bi-girls come in there. I ran into a gringo couple in the Delray elevator and she was kidding her boyfriend about wanting "Cien" it was very funny I asked her "Quanto Questo". If your female friend is easygoing and cool she'll like it there. If she is an uptight gringa please leave her at home ![]() |

I can't think of anything more miserable than bringing a date to the Del Rey. Like bringing sand to the beach. Like bringing a peanut butter sandwich to a all-you-can-eat steak dinner. |

James, Don't listen to Piroca. You'll have a great time with your female friend. Despite, the view of some around here that we represent the majority of the tourist market in CR. Most of the tourists that visit CR are not there to screw around with the local girls, so they have to be going there for something else. You will see the occasional couple in the DR, though not too often. I'm guessing usually the women is either bi and sharing in the fun or if she is straight is very open minded. Sometimes, it is the variety of them slumming, with the women shaking their heads in disgust and the men nodding "yes dear, its horrible" while trying to keep their eyes from popping out of their sockets. the latter type couple are not really welcomed there and invariably don't stay very long if they even make it in there anyway. The former, IMHO, are more than welcome if thats what floats their boat. I think it's very cool and I only wish my significant other were that openminded. Personally however, unless my girlfriend was bi and was going to join in threesome, I don't see the point of bringing a straight girlfriend to watch as you screw around on her. Even if it didn't bother her, it might make me self-conscious How your girlfriend will react only you could say, since we don't know her. If you're at all uncertain, I'd say avoid those places altogether and take her to the mountains and the beaches where you and her will not be confronted with its presence. The Castillo or the Europa would both be good hotels. If you play there and then decide to stay on at the same place with your friend, make sure the management is on the same playbook as you and doesn't spill any beans (which they probably wouldn't anyway). Of course, there's no way to make sure any DR chica you were with the night before is not going to embarass you with your girlfriend. You could also move across the street to the Don Carlos. Its a little bit more but a very charming B&B environment. It isn't as chica friendly as the other places but you won't be taking girls back at that point anyway (but might still be able to sneak away for a quicky at NF or ZB if you're so inclined). Just be sure you DON'T get room #10 which affords a direct view of the entrance to NF. |

James is your GF BI? If so you will have the time of your life. If not split your trip up between the Europa for play and the Castillo for you and your GF. Both places allow tica’s without an up-charge. I'v seen many a gringa GF in the DR. Some are cool and some are totaly FREAKED. Be careful bro that your GF doesn't fall head over heels in lust with a Tica and leave you out in the hall. |

James, I am sure you will enjoy your first few days. I would try to head to the beach in the North West part of the country or the rain forest for a couples type time, and not stay in SJO. Tour books and sites like Trip Advisor. Lonely Planet and Fodors are full of suggestion for budget couples. I would not welcome a straight Northamerican female in the Blue Marlin bar. I would want her out of there. She may receive unwelcome comments from other uninhibited imbibing customers. |

Thanks for the help there is so much to learn and plan. She has been a long time firend and I wanted to take her somewhere and show her a good time. A B&B where she can visit with other women a real up beat place maybe dancing, I think would be the best bet for her. She has never been anywhere so this has to be an intresting trip for both of us. Thanks for your help. |

If she's a good looking open minded gringa, and willing to make it an interesting trip, that doesn't need to be the case... ![]() ![]() |

James, You mentioned dancing...you might want to check out the Key Largo, they have a band, and it is across the street from the Blue Marlin. You of course can get your fill of eye candy... ![]() ShyOne |

With the right attitude she could go home with a profit on this trip. It would be good to explain 'NO CIEN" to her. |

There used to be quite a few friends of Jay's who came in. I haven't seen many members of that whole group much since the Brothers took a dive. They used to hang around with Cecilia, who I heard died. I showed the BM to a female friend who was in her 40s. She went to the bathroom, and said the girls in there looked at her and shook their heads. |
