I am planning a trip (my first) to CR and want to dive. I hear PDC is a good dive spot. I am traveling with a friend and we will probably stay in SJ overnight then off to dive. What do you think? Is Playa Del Coco a good place to dive? Where would you stay? We want to pack light should we back pack? Should we bring our own fins? Will we have any nightlife there? How would you get there? We will only be in the country for five nights and all options are open yet we want to dive at least two days. Thanks for any help! This board has been really helpful and I'm looking forward to writing a trip report when I get back! |

Unless your primary purpose is "muff diving" you are going to the wrong country! IMHO. Rocco |

We'll be in CR a total of about 150 hours and diving will take about 10 of those hours. ![]() |

I'm afraid that you're confused and badly mistaken. The one GREAT diving spot on Costa Rica is the Cocos Islands, NOT Playa del Coco. And they are nowhere NEAR each other. The Cocos Islands are 300 miles off shore and they take over a day to get there by boat from Jaco, Quepos, or Puntarenas. There are dive operators that run 5 to 10 day dive trips to the Cocos Islands, but you are obviously not hooked up with any of those at this time. Good luck figuring out what you are doing on this trip. |

I'm not the least bit confused. Anyone who's a diver knows what cocos Island is about. I even have the Sharks video....really cool. I'm just not into spending ten days on a liveaboard to do the trip at this time. The research I've been doing so far has led me to Playa Del Coco for a mix of beach, ladies, diving etc.. I'm just looking for some input. If we have no direction we may end up in a really funky spot and have a bad time and I don't want that or we end up getting "stuck" in SJ and never come home ![]() I could probably forego the diving but my friend won't go unless we commit to at least a couple of dives I'm still into balance. |
