Is the La Gran Via a good selection. I have read good and bad reports. Also is Amon really worth almost double what La Gran Via would cost?

I always stay at La Gran VIa. It's not as nicely decorated as El Presidente or some of the other places but it is clean, spacious and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is no problems with chicas, too. I like the side with the balconies so I can watch a little of the street life go by. The rate is cheap and it is close to everything. I've always walked from the DR to La Gran Via late at night, no problems, but a cab is cheap, if you use one. Shellie's is on the way home so I always top there to grab a late night snack, if I leave alone. Check it out. It really depends on what yo're looking for.

Everyone has their favorite place to stay. When first started coming to CR stayed at the Presidente (long before it was remodeled) then switched to the Gran Via. Always found it clean, Chica friendly, good free breakfast, staff that goes out of their way to help and extremely reasonable. The rate varies with length of stay and if willing to pay up front in cash. Last time I stayed there, before moving here, paid $30.00 (total tax & breakfast a night) for a 3 week stay.

The little extras like a refrigerator in your room and a super market next door are an added bonus.

I prefer the rooms in the that don't face the street, due to the fact that they are much quieter, better for sleeping when there is always some bafoon yelling out there late at night, or a motorcycle w/ no muffler.

Have stayed in both front rooms and back. Yes the back is a little quieter but my favorite room in the hotel is 804.

I checked out thier web site www.hgranvia.com and noticed they don`t have thier rates posted or a phone number other than a fax number which I found rather strange.

Joker 99,

Phones numbers are 506-222-7313/222-7168/222-7737. Manager name is Alvero. EMail is gerencia@hgranvia.com.

Published rate is not important, I always negotiated via email. He will always tell you " not to worry will give you a good rate". I never went for that and always agreed upon a rate, took a little back and forth but always worked out, remember the length of stay and willingness to pay up front in cash has a great influence on the rate.

Rooms will give you the prices, location the phone numbers.
I always stay there. The hotel is chica friendly. When you bring your "guest" in, they won't waste your time writing down the information (which is good, specially for those paying $100 an hour  ), they just keep her cedula or passport. The staff is great, just be nice to them!
Damn, I wish I could go, just $207.15 from Miami on AA :P Unfortuantely, I'm almost 3,000 miles away from the east coast, :( but I might be moving back there soon :D
