Hey guys. I got a super price from A/A flying a 3 hopper from Green Bay to Chicago to Miami to SJO for next thursday. Now I find , I don't have to work between now and then so I tried to move up my departure date. They were able to move me up to next tuesday without much of an increase....but anything before that got demasiado caro. What is the deal with flying standby? Can I go to the airport, present my ticket and get any vacant seat? Also, what would happen to checked baggage if I could do it? |

I have had great luck doing this. 1. only carry on luggage 2. i had a milage ticket 3. may be different for a paid ticket but you ought to be able to talk your way on if you can establish a relationship with the agent at the desk. 4. you probably won't have any luck with the folks at the 800 number |

I thought standby had gone the way of the 10-cent Coke since 9/11. I believe it's possible if you're trying to get an earlier flight on the same day as your reservation but anything else is almost non-existant due to security concerns. Better call American and check on their policy before going to the airport. If it is possible to fly standby you must do as CRBound said and NOT check any baggage. If you get a seat it will be at the last minute and there wouldn't be time to security check your luggage. Baggage does not go without the passenger anymore and sometimes not at all. |

Thanks Guys... I got them to book me for next tuesday...which will give me at least 2 weeks there. I had to pay them $100 to do it ...but my ticket was $30 cheaper ...so it cost me $70. I guess it's better than those poor fellows that only get to go for 2 or 3 days. Thanks for the help. |
