Good read and advice there. I just roll with whatever happens. I'll get to my destination eventually, and often with a voucher for another flight.

On a related, but very odd note.. I flew AA to ElPaso the first week of this month. Typically, one gets the usual blah blah about safety and exits, etc. Not THIS time. The FA explained exactly why they now give their speech. Goes back abit to a flight that crashed in the south, and the people in the exit seats thought that by pushing on the exit light would open the exit. 114 people died because of their stupidity. They should all give this speech. Opened a few eyes around me...and shut a few people up too boot.

Sounds like an urban legend, anyone check with AA to confirm? Have traveled AA many times and never heard that story and now that safety briefing is mostly done by video doubt I ever will.

I've studied every US airline crash in the last 30 years and that's the first time I've heard that story.

Besides, if the plane were to actually make it to the ground you can be sure the FAs would be right there making sure that doors were opened correctly.

I have been on a couple flights in the past year where an FA has actually gone to the exit rows and made sure the people sitting there were ready and able to do their duty if an emergency should arise.

As for the people dying on the ground, here are some links just in case I might have missed it:

Every incident for American Airlines since 1983. Nothing listed as described.

Another excellent post by a travel expert, Brother Witling.
NOTE: www.tripso.com is still a live site but they've redesigned their site so these particular articles may be hard to find or lost altogether. The site is still worthy for all air travelers--up-to-the-minute info and blogs. Check it out.
