I'm staying for work at a hilton that is not tica friendly.
What would you guys recommend for a first timer?
Book the cheapest room at sportsmen or somewhere else?
Plan to use la oficina or something else short term? Should I walk there or taxi there from a place like Taormina? I understand its a short walk can be dangerous for a tourist.

Thoughts appreciated.

Hello fellow Texan from the only sex felony state. :(

Correct do not walk at night from the Tao or anywhere in the gulch unless with strong friends and/or a short distance. It gets really dicey there even in front of Castillo last year in April a street urchin tryin to F with me.

I think that booking a love motel to partake in the activities banned by your hotel is a solid idea. Depending on your budget Sportsmen's even a basic room may be $80/day? I think a get a basic room at Amistad for $60/day? Love motels may be cheaper. Of if like me can be even cheaper just visit the any # of on-site facilities. That's what I'm doing in 2 weeks in Monterrrey MEX. :D :D :D

And if I encounter a chica willing to meet me outside will take her to a luv motel!

Trying to get back to CR but airfares even thru May are "hefty hefty" like too many of the chicas in C.R. these days.

It up to me I will book a room with Pura Vida Dream hotel for a couple of days. It about $40 per day, across the street from hotel Castillo.

You can walk down to tao in the daytime. Take the taxi back at night for about one or two mil, that way when you’re done, you don’t have to rush back to the hotel.

Enjoy yourself in San Jose and be safe.

i just booked July 3-rd through the 9th on United. Fairs from Houston from under $600. Actually only a little bit more than when I first went back in 2007.

Whiskey Barrel has rooms that start at $40/night that is chica friendly. It's across the street from Castillo and American owned. I like it though I would recommend Sportsman if it's your first time around.
