Only time I’ve been to San Jose, was during pandemic so didn’t leave SL. My question is this, is La Amistad similar to Sportsmens? Just booked flight and went to book SL, but sold out my dates (10/31-11/3) was able to find availability at LA, but never been. I appreciate it guys. Thanx

I think the rooms at the Amistad are a bit nicer than the Sportsmens rooms overall, except for the Mansion Wing rooms at the SL which for the most part are superior. The Amistad has no onsite restaurant except for the 2K colones breakfast. In the bar, the person working the desk will get you a drink from the bar on request but there is no bartender. No chicas hang out at the hotel so you will have to walk to another venue to find company. The SL is only a short walk. The hotel is totally guest friendly. You get a lot more room for your $$$.

The train is a huge differentiator. If you are in the wrong room you will not sleep late in the morning or nap in the afternoon/ early evening Monday through Friday. It is VERY loud. There are other posts with room recommendations for the least noise. You could also call the toll free number and ask them which rooms have the least train noise.

All of that said, I stayed there on my last trip about 3 weeks ago and enjoyed it. Muy tranquilo, As I am an early riser the train didn't really bother me but it did scare the S^&% out of a chica trying to sleep in. I would stay there again.

It is for sale and has been for a while, but open as far as I know.

When I was down in April it was up and looked new. Spoke to Matt and he wants to get rid of it so can just focus on the Castillo. He thinks a client looking for medical offices might like it since near Hosp. Calderon.

It was at least 4 or 5 years ago Matt told me he was trying to sell the place as a medical office.

Nothing will happen that quickly. If or when it sells there will likely be a long transition.
