I believe the official taxi rate is $30 from sjo to Centro. You can't really negotiate at the arrivals terminal. Taxi I think its a bit more than that now...last time closer to $36 dollars I think.

Ubers vary, but yes, they pick up sometimes on the street behind the parking garage where the bus stops are, or as arranged. And generally cheaper than taxi.

I used Uber for the first time in July from the airport to the Castillo and it was about 8k colones, met the driver upstairs by the departure area. He was there waiting for me. Alot better than a taxi.

On Monday, 8/26, I paid $16.65 for an Uber from the SL to the airport.

Probably better off linking up with an Uber to pick you up in front of the airport where the bus station is. I have found that a lot cheaper going from SJO airport to any of the San Jose hotels or Escazu Air bnb's that I've rented.
