Can you get an Uber from the Airport or only a taxi?

You can, but you have to meet them on the street sort of behind the parkade, where the bus stops are. They can't come in and pick up right at the terminal, although sometimes they seem to be able to pick up on the departures level above.

Thanks so head out of the airport and just ask where the bus stop is and meet them there?

Last time I arrived and called an Uber I think they sent me the instructions to meet them there. I don't know if the driver wrote those or if Uber provides that for airport pickups, but either way the Uber driver should communicate with you as to where to walk to.

In late April I did as my previous trip last September recommended on here and went up to departures area to the last crosswalk #4 and able to get one however he had to park in the paid lot then I walked over to his car parked there. Proly due to the taxi mafia Ubers can no longer drive through departure and pick up.

However well worth it as cost half, the driver friendly not cold like many of the airport taxistas.

Uber is technically not permitted but will pick you up at departures. They prefer you to walk opposite the last (fourth) crosswalk outside the terminal.

I've used them for my last 4 trips. I think it was 8500 colones from the airport to the Sportsmens. The return on Sunday morning was 7800 colones.

They will ask you to ride in the front seat to give the illusion that a friend is picking you up.

I usually give them a 1K tip but that still keeps the ride under $$20. A lot cheaper than an Orange Cab.

While we're on the subject of Uber: 2 weeks ago I was back in CR and this was the 1st time I decided to try using Uber there. I have a regular driver from the SL that takes me places as well as I've used taxi's.

I have to admit, I was surprised by the savings. My regaular driver charges me $30 from SL to Escazu. The Uber was around $12.

On one Uber trip recently from Multiplaza to the SL I went to get in to the back seat of the car as I normally do. The driver asked me to sit in the front seat with the reason being that "Uber isn't allowed in CR" or something to that effect. I just sat in the front seat and didn't ask why and let it go. Any idea what he might have been referring to?

Yes, since Uber is still illegal in CR, the drivers will ask singles to sit in the front seat so it doesn’t look so obviously like an Uber (or DiDi). You will also see them take down their mobile phones from the dashboard when they see traffic police - same reason.

Hopefully it will be legal soon so we can stop playing these games.

On one trip I ordered my Uber and headed to the end of departures. When I got there I noticed 2 cop cars and an orange Taxi. They seemed to be just visiting. As my Uber arrived I motioned to him and gave a greeting by name and a como estas. Remember when you get your confirmed pick up they give the car description, name of driver and the plate number. Jumped in the front and away we went. Nobody even gave us a second look.

When you exit the airport, go to the left and just follow the road down the ramp; bus stop is right behind where the Parking garage is.

Uber and Didi drivers tell me it one because of the cops, but also Red Taxi mafia sometimes will harrass them after they drop, if they saw back seat passengers in a regular car
