How much are the taxi guys sitting outside the Del Rey charging for a ride to the Hotel Presidente after 10 pm? Over the last two years I've been walking back to the Presidente well after mid-night and I never had an incident but perhaps I should not press my luck anymore.

The guys setting in front of the Del Rey rip you off.If you flag one on the street it should be no more than the minimum fare of like 270 col. I have never had a problem walking that route at any time outher than the hassle of the beggars.rbc100

Aside from the beggars I've never had any difficulties walking from the Del Rey to the Presidente late at night. I didn't realize however that the cabbies outside the Del Rey would over charge the mongers. Thanks for the tip.

Best to look for one with a maria(meter) where ever you are going and sometimes they will still try to rip you off. There are many honest ones as well as some who try to rip people off.Just one of the scams we have to deal with.rbc100

The last time I heard they were charging 1,000 colones for the ride to the Presidente from the Delrey.

Taking a metered cab is always the best approach but beware of fast meters

One of the concessions the Government made during the protests, over the monopoly of the Spanish firm doing the safety inspections, is that they would no longer make sure the taxi meters were calibrated correctly. Prior to that concession taxis and there meters were inspected twice a year and about 30% were rejected for fast meters.

Unfortunately unless you are a regular user and have a ball park idea of the correct fare there is little you can do about that situation.
