Post subject:  Getting colones at the airport?
In the past they used to have ATMs in the luggage pick-up area. They have been gone since COVID. Have they returned yet?

Is there still a bank upstairs in departures to exchange dollars for Colones? Do they offer a decent exchange rate?

I came yesterday. Nothing in the baggage area, only the super shark money exchanges.
I did not go up to see if the bank was open. Bank upstair will only be open during banking hours , 9 am to 4 pm possibly I would guess.

ATMs on departures level work for me. One outside by parkade, and one or more inside terminal. I think a BCR outside and at least one inside I think is Banco Nacional. Or Banco Popular... not sure.

There are 2 ATMs in the INS building near SL. I am just asking about the airport, because I won’t be going to San Jose when I arrive.

The ATMs at the airport are fine, but be very security conscious when you do. Never, ever, go to an ATM with the taxi driver following you! I had to threaten one taxi driver who followed me into the ATM booth at the top of the stairs.

Know exactly how much you are going to withdraw, don’t do calculations at the ATM.

The BAC upstairs by departure gives a good exchange rate and convenient for my noon arrival. Also I catch a taxi up there.

Yes, when you exit the terminal it is across the street and to your left.
