Post subject:  How to get the total cost of airfare?

I know there are some airline loyalists that like to fight to defend the honor of their beloved airline. This inquiry isn't for you to show your airline patriotism.

When researching costs for airline tickets, there are some discount airlines that are adroit at manipulating you into paying a total price that is greater than other airlines. They all start with a get on the plane price, from there they nickel and dime you with carry-on luggage fees, check bag fees, etc. I have noticed that some charge one price for checked luggage going to CR and another price for the checked luggage returning. This makes it difficult to get the total price of a ticket to compare with other airlines. Another tactic is to sell you a bundle that includes many extras such as being the first on the plane. These bundle prices can differ from day to day. One quoted a bundle price of $75 each way and the next time I checked, it was $100 each way - the get on the plane price remained the same, however.

Is there a quick way to compare? I use Google Flights, but unless you go through the 100 question booking process, you really don't know the total price. Is the only way to get an accurate price to compare with other airlines, is to go through the booking process for each airline, EACH DAY you're looking?

I wanted to see if anyone found a better way to compare TCO between airlines.

Thanks.
