Looking for insight regarding the rooms at Castillo. Is the king room that much better that the queen size room and are there any recommendations on which queen or king to ask for? Currently LA Amistad is not taking reservations due to covid restrictions. Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Stayed at Castillo my 1st time in Nov same reason the LA being closed

I got a PH and enjoyed it and so did my Chica's got some great Photos this trip too actually ended up with PH1 overlooking the Zoo with some sweet night city views. I prefer a room with a couch a few tables and a little more space to make my stay Comfy for me and the my company. Total of 3 PH on the 3rd level if you don't care to climb steps stay away from those rooms.

As for the The King rooms I only know what Rudy described to me a few have balcony's that one can sit on with a few chairs and enjoy some fresh air which are definitely a upgrade from a standard queen room. The website shows a few pictures of rooms and you could also email and ask for some pictures of specific rooms.

Stayed in several over the years...

Penthouses are great. Rooftop balcony is usually a big hit with the girls. If possible get the one all the way at the end to avoid listening to people walk by the front door.

The king balcony overlooking the zoo down a floor is the best room for the money. Private and a great view over the zoo. Hope you don’t mind animal noise.

I’ve also stayed at the big suite that is right up the stairs to the right of the front desk that overlooks the front of the hotel. Can get a little louder at times from the street, but it’s really convenient. Plus you can enter and exit the front door without having to walk through the bar. Just in case you’re trying to not let two ticas cross paths now that Darin‘s letting some into the bar.

But whichever room you get, make sure you pony up the extra 10 bucks for the all inclusive because that’s the best damn deal in town IMHO.

Try to stay away from the bar area lower level rooms next to the pool table. There is always a pair or group of inconsiderate a-holes who feel they have to yell and holler after each shot well into the night.

I am here right now. The room numbers on the first floor bar level are 14,15, 16, 17 and 18. One of our friends is staying in room 15 and he said the noise kept him from sleeping the first night he was here. Unless you are a late sleeper and late riser, request to not be put in one of these rooms. They are allowing the girls to come And then hang out so at times it can get fairly noisy.

I'm not sure. I seem to remember asking for it on previous trips & was denied because I got the all-inclusive.

They also used to give a cash discount when checking out. Meaning just the price of the room if paying in cash, no tax unless it was a credit card. They do not offer that anymore.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.
Since things are starting to pick up, none of the desirable hotels has any specials or discounts.

I understand that Castillo rooms 14-18 are noisy. Has anyone stayed in #11 in the attic and how did you like it? Supposedly better than all other queen rooms.
Also, what is the difference between the old building and the new addition?

Thanks

Props to the Castillo for giving us a free ride to the airport because we stayed 4 nights. Also, they paid for 1/2 (well, almost 1/2), not just $50, but 1/2 of the COVID test. I say 1/2 because my CC was rung up for $109, not the $100 we had been hearing, so they deducted $54 from my hotel bill.

I know, I know, splitting hairs and whining about $4. I'm still in the shoestring budget travel mode & the IAH airport closure forced us to stay an extra 3 nights, so any little bit helped.
