Stayed at Taormina last night. 3rd floor. No major complaints. Very modern, and comfortable room. Free parking in their indoor lot was a plus. $10 chica fee not a big deal. The restaurant in the hotel closes at 5pm and the bar at 8pm. Also maybe because it was New Year's but there were only 4-5 chicas in the bar. Very friendly

Not sure why some said this is like an old Days Inn, to me it's more comparible to a Wyndham Wingate. But to each their own.

A Chica fee? During these times? Isn't that a bit over the top???

The Taormina really doesn't want mongers staying there in the first place. Between their attitude towards mongers and the facility and security guard issues myself and others have constantly experienced, I would consider them last on my list of places to stay in San Jose. There are way better and friendlier options to be found.

I usually stay at the sportsmens if I can get one of the rooms with a walk-in shower. Getting too old to handle the tub gymnastics after a couple of cocktails.

I've stayed at the Taormina a few times and never had a bad stay. Room was newly remodeled and housekeeping was great. Included breakfast was good. Bar prices were reasonable and bar food was very good.

One thing to check is the room price if you book through you airline. I got a great rate associated with my Delta reservation.

All of that said, I haven't stayed there post covid. I hear a lot about the guest fee but you should remember that the Del Rey charged for everyone that you brought up the elevator.

I personally would not stay in a hotel where I had to pay to bring in a guest.. I have stayed at nice hotels outside the gulch and never had any issues bringing any ladies, as long as they dress appropriately. I used to stay at Mona Lisa (Taormina) back when Guy Grand was around, but if they are going to charge me to bring a friend.. screw them!

I never understood the obsession with this trivial issue. If you're a testosterone laden manly man, and bringing over 4 women to your room daily, good for you, and yea, then it adds up.

I look at it this way, with airfare, general hotel costs, dining out, misc. expenses of living away from home, it usually added up to $1,000 to $1,500 for me to stay 5 days or so per visit, before I paid any companionship expenses, so I'm supposed to get worked up over an $11 visitor fee?

When I stayed at the HDR back in the ancient days, my room was generally $60 to $70 a night, and many of the nicer competing hotels with no visitor fee were in the $100 a night range, I guess guys staying there were bragging they had no visitor fee, lol.

Another odd proclivity I noticed with some guys on vaca is they would approach an absolute stunner who would agree to all their requests and ask $100, many wouldn't budge over $80 and the stunner walked. When I was vacationing and spending big, and time and opportunity was the issue, I always found that measly extra $20 was always well worth every penny. So here we have guys who spent thousands to get here and now they're haggling with hoz over $20, never made sense to me.

Times are different now, I now live here and have a smaller retirement income to live off of, I have time to find the bargains and it's kind of fun, my current fave delivers an overnight stay and multiple pops for a meager cien, and I can locate encounters with hotties for as low as $40 to $50 all day and all night. My advice to tourist mongers spending big to get here and obsessed with holding on to your chicken feed, let loose of your loot, Ebenezer...time is your enemy here...

The Del Rey always had a fee for brining extra guests to the room. The Del Rey was also a casino.

That fee drove the popularity of the Presidente hotel as place to spend the night.

Perhaps history is repeating itself.

Also consider not wanting to exclude too many bars from your social itinerary, given the effect of 25 percent capacity controls this month.
