Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the board. I'm well-travelled globally (Thailand, Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, Indonesia, etc.) and lots of experience enjoying the local talent. I've never been to Costa Rica, and am planning a trip soon.

My question is: I don't really have a budget (I can spend a lot), and am looking for the HIGHEST QUALITY hotel that won't hassle me about girls. I'm talking 5-star places with gourmet restaurants, nice pool, etc.

Anything like that in San Jose?

Thanks very much for suggestions.

RK

Since you've never been to Costa Rica, I would suggest that for the first visit, you stay at the several recommended places mentioned on this board and get your bearings.
There are 5 star hotels in the general area, but they generally frown on obvious hooker looking visitors parading through their lobby; there are extra guest fees, and the ladies dont want to travel that far for a 'trick' , unless you pay with your unlimited budget monies.
Get your feet wet and then decide if you want to chase the ladies and stay at the Barcelo, or the Intercontinental, or other luxury places

Something I've considered is just renting two rooms. SL has rooms in the $65-75 range. That's cheap enough that I would be fine just using it as a Phuck base, and actually staying in the traditional hotel of my choice. If you're looking to do TLN or just want to pass out for the night as soon as you finish a session, this obviously isn't going to be a great option.

I'm staying at Taormina this time. I don't expect 5 star accommodations, but I do expect a more typical American hotel experience that is chica friendly.

Rent the Penthouse at Sportsman Lodge then. I think you will find it fine for yourself.

What you are looking for sounds more like a resort and not something you would find in San Jose.

There are plenty of good high quality restaurants within a short taxi ride from Sportsman.

Thanks everyone for all of the feedback. The best suggestion seems to be the Penthouse at Sportsmen Lodge. Perhaps I will do that (do they have a pool?)

I trade stocks/options during the day, so San Jose is a good option for me - not a long flight from where I live, and the time change is only 1 hr versus home.

My ideal day is wake up, trade until the market closes, have a long lunch and lounge by the pool, then a short nap followed by chasing girls in the evening. Lather/rinse/repeat.

Might do a day trip to Jaco as well while I’m there. I will probably be going mid/late July.

I also play golf, so if there are some good options I’ll bring my sticks.

Thanks!

It depends on how obvious and/or unruly you are with the chicas and how many times you change chicas, etc. but if you're looking for truly high quality, five-star resort living without a budget, you might want to check out the Marriott Los Sueños Resort just north of Jaco. I wouldn't call it chica friendly per se, but never had an issue with chicas there. Always kept it very low key and had no problem. It is not in the heart of the action, but it is not far from it, either. Just a short taxi ride away. It has been a while since I stayed there, so others on the board may have newer information.

No pool at the SL, sorry. The PH has 2 jacuzzis, though.

For your first visit, I would follow Boynton's advice and stay at one of the following - Sportmens, Amistad, Castillo or Taormina - and get the lay of the land first, then when you return and assuming you aren't going to parade 5 chicas a day through your hotel lobby, try your luck with one from the list below.

If you are still prepared to spend $ here are some SJO hotel options. I've stayed at every one personally at one time or the other.

1) Costa Rica Marriott Resort in Belen - pool, golf driving range, resort hotel, very nice rooms, elegant place, several onsite restaurants and bars, high chica fees (you have to register your chica at the front desk).

2) Intercontinental Escazu - across the street from Multiplaza Escazu, nice pool area including one of the few heated pools in SJO (trust me, you'll appreciate it as most pools are unheated and it's like jumping into a tub full of ice water). Best experienced with your chica registered as a guest, otherwise $$$ chica fee or security hassles although I personally never experienced any problem.

3) Hilton Garden in Sabana - more of a city vibe, great location, US standard facilities and service, has a lap pool but on a windy high-rise deck, also unheated. Again, registered guests are fine, have no idea what the chica fee is or if the security situation will allow you multiple chica visits without hassling you. I've had multiple guests at the same time BUT there weren't obvious hookers, they dressed and behaved as if they were hotel guests.

4) Sheraton Escazu - tiny rooftop unheated pool, very nice rooms, far away from pretty much everything except the Multiplaza and Avenida Escazu. Casino connected to the hotel if that's your thing. Again, registered chicas are fine, not sure about guests as I stayed there with the same chica.

5) Barcelo - most laid back of the "high end" hotels I've stayed in SJO. Seems to have no issue with visiting chicas, at least I didn't encounter any. Nice room. Unheated pool(s). Great breakfast buffet included in room rate. Bars and restaurants onsite.

Jaco

6) Marriott Los Suenos - $$$ resort in Jaco. High rollers stay here. Chicas are allowed but must be registered. There may be chica fees involved, don't know as I've never stayed here personally (too far from the action)

7) Croc's - another $$ resort, this one in Jaco proper. Nice pool area. Lots of families stay here so you will get side eye from rich Ticos if you parade obvious whores around. Never had an issue with security or chica fees, but others here have reported recent fee enforcement.

YMMV with using any of these as a base for mongering. I've done the "rent two rooms" strategy several times, and that works pretty well for me.

July 2018 a $65 chica fee was charged to me at the Barcelo. I threatened to never stay there again but the desk clerk didn't care just charged me. Also chica that I brought there had left her cedula there from another visit and the desk clerk recognized her and returned it. lol

The other thing I need to be mindful of is a stable, reliable internet connection. Doesn't have to be super-fast (20mbs plus should be sufficient). I'll be trading every day, so a crap internet connection will really cramp my style.

i would rate the speed adequate for trading .. but reliability is the issue...
id recommend you have your orders server side vs broker side with a VPS if youre trading futures... for stocks, not sure if thats an option.. keep your trade desk number on speed dial ready in case you need to cancel order due to a drop in service

i would rate the speed t most hotels and work spaces barely adequate for trading.. but reliability is the main issue...

I always lived your lifestyle in Costa Rica. You will need to get dirty in the belly of the beast to start with and eventually you will develop a list of dependable contacts. Then you can live the 5 star lifestyle. I recommend you pm Pops for a wingman. He can shave a lot of time off the clock of getting your bearings down.
A day trip to Jaco is a wasted day. Crocs and Marriott @ Los Suensos are 5 star.
SL Penthouse is an excellent choice while your swimming around in the belly of the beast.
