I was able to book two of my three night in San Jose at the Sportsmans Lodge on this past trip. I was very rushed on finding a hotel as it was a lastminute trip....very last minute.
Hands down the most accomidating place I have stayed in San Jose! Bill has an excellent operation. Your not just a guest, you are a "doors always open" friend when staying at the lodge or droping by for a drink or bite to eat and catch a game(btw, the food is great and I don't believe I have seen a bar as well stocked in San Jose as is theirs(johnny walker blue lable anyone?)). The service and staff make this my choice of hotels in SJ.
The rooms are very nice. Satilite TV, comfortable beds, excellent service and the friendliest staff around. Wanda and Ray can help you accomplish anything your heart desires. Bill's comeradery is second to none. He even let me join in as a guest for a down to the KL for drinks and dancing with his fiance and bartenders. You really do feel like family at the lodge. Great prices, great accomidations, warm and welcoming staff. You cant ask for more. Book ahead as they fill up quickly. And after the stay...I completely understand why! Thanks again to everyone at the Sportsmans Lodge and I will see everyone in May!

I fully concur with you.

I've been going to SJ for a good many years and the SL is as good as I've seen. Unpretentious, accommodating, elegant and casual all at once.

The staff is wonderful, and Bill and Carina are first-class, no BS straight-shooting hoteliers that understand what CUSTOMER SERVICE is all about.

I wish them the best, and hope they can make it through the long haul.

Johnny Walker Blue?! I know where mi amigo Johnnie Black will be
hanging out a lot on his future trips :D

I wonder what they charge for a shot of that?! A bottle (if you can find one) goes for around $160 in the States and around $120 at the duty free
at the airport in San Jose.

What type of room did you stay in?

I stayed in Paz and Amor. they were standard rooms to my knowlege and still very nice. All of the rooms are names...not numbers.
Gringotim:
Yes the bar is fabulous. Great selection of rums, scotch, vodka and everything you could want to mix up your favorite drink.
Anyone can venture and start a hotel, but to run an esablishment with the atmosphere they have provided, its a task dificult to accomplish yet perfected at Sportsmans Lodge.

DTA...do you know if they stock/serve Demerara El Dorado (15 years old, from Guyana) rum? I suppose I could contact them directly via their website and make a suggestion.
