Don't count on taking Uber to and from the airport. Transportation police were there yesterday Impounding their vehicles. I saw 6 hooked up to wreckers. Taxi drivers are calling for them and police are waiting at pickup points.

The times that I have taken uber in San Jose have been very positive experiences, not always true with taxis. Many times taxis seem to get "lost" on the way to the destination.
Thanks for the heads up, Pops.

One poster here on another thread said he would walk out of the airport looking for taxi's just dropping someone off.

Since they're not allowed in the airport rotation, usually they head back downtown with no fare, and he offers them $15 to shut off the meter and he hops in, benefits for both, brilliant!

Normally I prefer Uber, but today I had a dimwitted one. I saw he was around the area, in Sabana, an easy pickup on a main road, but never found me and cancelled.

I redid it and the next guy found me immediately, easily and earned a nice propina, clean modern car, intelligent young man.

Upon arriving home, I checked my phone and saw the dimwitted one texted me, saying "Where are you" ? "I am here."

Since I enjoy poking fools, I texted him back, I said "Let me give you some pointers how you can improve your job performance..."

I said he was nowhere near me, I was looking all over and the next guy easily found me, so the screw up was him, pay attention to where you're supposed to pick people up.

I never saw him, and next time call, don't text. When you're called, the phone rings, when you're texted it just bleeps and I had my cell in a fanny bag and obviously didn't hear it as traffic whizzed by.

I told him the fare and 1 mil propina the intelligent driver received, this could have gone to you, if you knew how to do your job properly...

Finally...I believe there's a guy on the board here who picks people up and takes them to the airport for a reasonable price, night or day and is downright dependable. Pops, I believe you know him...

I use Uber myself frequently. The airport taxis are at war with Uber. The vehicles that were being impounded were not at the drop off or pickup points inside the airport. They were across from the bus stop outside where the traffic police had a road block set up. I know Uber drivers who will not accept trips to the airport knowing the risk.

I've used Uber for SJO the last couple of trips with very good results and it was incredibly cheap. Based on Pops recent observations I am going to forego using them at the airport this weekend as the last thing I want to start off my trip is to be in the middle of a fight between a horde of pissed off taxi drivers and some poor Uber driver.

I guess I will go back to my old practice of hustling a ride for a taxi driver dropping off a fare in departures.

That's an excellent option and as a fellow member, indeed the treasurer, of the "Frugal Monger" club, I'm going to try it sometime! 8)
