Hey gents,

I appreciate any info I can get for Hotel Sonador.

I am planning a last minute SJ trip . I was wondering if anybody has stayed here and hoping to get some details.

My Spanish is pretty bad, so I could only get the following over the phone:
- $20/night $100/week, maybe a little cheaper in colones?
- The best time to call (+506 2222 1747) is in the morning, around 8am local time
- When you get disconnected or get an error message, just keep calling. They don't have a voicemail system. Someone will pickup eventually.
- Spanish only over the phone

Hoping someone knows if they have the following:
- A safe
- Hot water
- At least a full size bed
- Housekeeping of any kind
- Chica friendly policy
- Pay cash by day/week policy

Basically, I need a cheap place close to the Gulch. I'll be going to the pensions for most of my mongering, but I have a favorita that is outcall only. Also, it's always good to keep HDR and SL girls as an option.

Any info is much appreciated.

Jeez!.......you must really be broke. You come to CR to pay putas all this money and you want to stay in a dump like this? Good luck. I pass this place every day. Twilight Zone! If you saw the place you would see why $20.00 a night is way overpriced. Makes Hotel Asia look like a 4 star property. You might be better off getting a refrigerator box and staying on the street with the homeless. Good luck!

Jeez ... is right !
It is a literal hole in the wall, around the corner from the Automercado in downtown.
During the day you can walk around, The sidewalk 'rolls up' around 6 and outside is not where you want to be be.
Any chica you invite over will KNOW you are a cheap, poor guy and will realize that if you can give her 20 mil, you are going over your monthly budget.

But, you may find it just right for you.
I happen to know a fairly wealthy american who has made the Sonador his 'go-to' place for 6 weeks at a time. He likes the convenient location, takes Uber everywhere; MP's, etc. and has his regular/maid/concubine visit everyday. He goes to bed at 7 PM everyday and the location and crappiness doesnt bother him.

As alternative- Airbnb has some places downtown for $20 a night or so. One is on Avenidad Central, OR look into one of the youth hostels in san jose, and use the MP's. When your favorite is available, splurge for a few hours at La Oficina, or the Hotel Asia

Good luck

Some members who came to CR for dental work stayed there a few months ago and thought it was a good value..
Can't beat the price. Lots of sketchy hotels nearby charge more.
No there is no safe. Yes there is hot water. And there is a backup water tank so you have water even when the city shuts off the water due to rationing. Not sure if that is still going on. It was in May.
Every room has a TV with cable. The internet is 15 mb. A few rooms get a poor signal. Most of the rooms have a big bed. There is a sink , micro, fridge and table and chairs in a common room. On all three floors.
Yes there is house keeping. She can do laundry also.
Chica friendly although there is a 5 mil change if she stays all night or more than 4 hrs. Enforced erratically.
Only cash accepted. Pay by day or by week.
Unfortunately the surrounding area has gotten worse over the years. So be cautious. The outside door is locked around 8 pm so you have to ring a bell and wait until the door is opened.
It is a great location for going to pensions and automercado is just around the corner.
Good value for the money.

Hey thanks the honesty. A couple of posts on here suggested it, so I didn't think it would be that bad. I was also looking into Linda Vista or AirBnBs since I'll be there for 2-3 weeks, but thought Sonador was best option for me. It's in a more convenient location, and I assumed I could pay cash per day. I'm planning on taking some short trips out of SJ, so the flexibility was a plus. Which reminds me, is Jaco viable this time of year with the rain?

Hey I REALLY appreciate the info, it's exactly I was looking for. It definitely meets my needs in theory, but I guess quality might be an issue. Thanks for the heads up about the neighborhood. I went to Automercado a couple of nights in May, but I guess I was too oblivious to notice.
