Post subject:  Hotel Santo Tomas and Egyptian Restaurant next to it
Just spent Nov 7 - 13 at the Hotel Santo Tomas which is across the street from Bar Poas (should of checked if this bar is still Poas or not). This was a non mongering trip on my behalf (played to tour guide to a family member), but the rooms seemed to be chica friendly as another guest brought back a chica for the night. Rooms were adequate with mainly couples and a few unattached singles. Rooms similar to the old Dunn Inn/Morazon. Staff friendly and helpful and breakfast included. Booked a tour with them. All in all not a bad stay, would work in a pinch if working on short notice and the usual mongering places are all booked. Next door is an Egyptian restaurant. Give that place 5 stars regarding service and food. Only 4 tables, prices reasonable. Had humice appetizer followed with large bowl of lental soup (best I ever had) and a huge falafel (excuse spelling) sandwich (which could feed two easy).

Walked by the Egyptian restaurant a million times and always wondered, but never pulled the trigger. I'll check it out soon and see if they have lamb, a staple for Middle East countries and probably difficult to get in Costa Rica.

I always thought it looked expensive, guess I'll have to check the prices, thanks for the write up! :D

The prices are real good but no alcoholic drinks, mostly fruit juices, coffee, tea (Egyptian black tea) and sodas. The prices are real good, I believe the soup was 2000 colones (huge bowl of lental soup), and falafel sandwich was either 1800 colones or 2400, can't remember which. The humus is was in a huge plate and served with a large hot flat bread to soak it up with - believe it was 2000 colones (the humus here is better than the crap they sell in the grocery stores in the states). I felt and looked like a beached whale when it was all said and done. Good eats.
