First visit to SJ late Feb. I’m between SL and LA. Currently have a wing, but there is a chance he will hit a conflict and bail. In the event I’m rolling solo, which would be the best hotel? I’m 38 and have traveled DR and Prague a few times but am looking forward to SJ.

If you like to drink lots of alcohol like I do, You can't go wrong with the all-inclusive deal at Amistad.

Or the all-inclusive at La Amistad's sister hotel, the Castillo - and no train!

No need to twist me arm on that front. I’m just wanting to be somewhere I might run into a few fellow travelers in the event I’m rolling alone. Like I said, CR newbie.

I would say SL for first timers but while you are in CR, walk to LA and Castillo and get a tour. They are roughly 200 yards away in either direction from SL
Ladies on site at SL, and the other places only with a date for the most part. No guest fees for any of these places.

Then when you book your next trip, you will have seen options.

  • SL is an all around great choice for the first timer, especially if you want to find chicas onsite.
  • Amistad is a 2 minute walk from SL, more of a quiet, laid back vibe with no onsite chicas unless they're with guests, very good food, and has the all inclusive deal going for it.
  • Castillo is 2 minutes in the other direction from SL, it's the new (well, remodeled from top to bottom) place catering to fellow mongers, same owner as Amistad, same all inclusive deal... and no train noise as mentioned above.

You can't go wrong with any of the three, and you will find plenty of fellow mongers in each one.
