Has anyone ever had a short layover in Panama City panama or San Salvador airport?? Looking to book a last min trip this week for a few days and found cheap flights with an hour layover in those airports. Do you have to go through their customs as well? Etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you have a choice hit Panama. Easy airport and small. Do not ever go thru Mexico City. |

Do you have to go through customs there as well? Wasn’t sure if the time frame was enough time to make the next flight. Not sure if it’s the same plane. I appreciate the response Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As long as you are in transit and not changing airlines you will not need to go thru customs in Panama or San Salvador. Just make sure you do not venture out the Secure Area. 10 minutes would be plenty most of the time in Panama. Don't forget they need to get your bags off the plane and transfered to the next plane. I assume they scan the bags for contraband while transferring them or at least have the dogs check them. |

One thing I forgot to mention. If you are leaving Costa Rica on a different Airline and not on the same reservation make sure you have your proof handy that have a flight out of Costa Rica. A bus ticket probably won't work anymore, as they want the same mode of travel exiting as entering. Having it ready to go will eliminate any anxiety searching for paperwork under the gun. |

Going from the US thru El Salvador to either CR or Managua you will not have to go through Security again (no customs requirement as long as you do not leave the airport). But leaving from CR or Managua to the US you will have to go through Security again at the El Salvador airport before changing planes (still no customs). This can take time so plan well. I found the that you need at least one hour to do the transfer. |

Don't for get your bag. Sometimes airlines have a bag pass thru agreement with each other. That is a question you ask upon booking. Otherwise, you might be forced to pick up your bags on the other side at the carousel, recheck, security, and THAT will turn into a nightmare. Especially if you're running a tight schedule. |

I've flown through San Salvador several times...never a problem. It's a hub of sorts for Avianca...perhaps other airlines. 45 minutes is lots of time...just check when you get in where you need to line up for the next leg. Also, once in a while they have a second check you need to go though...set up in the gate area...but I think that is only on flights heading back to the US or possibly Canada. |
