The Costa Rican police received an alert through the 911 system regarding a dead man in the Del Rey Hotel, a known sexual tourism hot spot located in downtown San Jose.

The Costa Rican Red Cross arrived first at the scene and confirmed the death of a foreigner, however, when the police arrived at the Del Rey, private security officers of the hotel tried to prevent the entry of the authorities; the policemen imposed their position of authority and made their way to where the body was.

“The security of the hotel blocked the entry of the officers to the hotel, eventually, establishing their authority the officers entered the facilities without further conflict; however, the administration of the hotel and the private security didn’t want to provide details regarding the death of the man, nor did they want to inform the officers of where the body was to help the officers do their job and therefore obstructing their work”, explained the press release.



“Due to this adverse situation faced by the police officers, two members of the hotel security and a third person who apparently is part of the hotel’s management were detained, accused of use of intimidation to prevent and obstruct the work of the police officers”, informed Public Security.

The three people detained face up to three years of jail time for obstruction of justice.

The cause of death of the person found and the circumstances under which the incident occurred are currently under investigation. The identity of the man was not revealed.

I asked around at HDR last night and couldn't get any details from the bartenders, security, nor any guys ' in the know'. All i heard it was that it was a suicide and the fellow left a note
It's more curiosity; was it anyone we know?, what were the cirumstances ? any chicas in the room, etc.

According to the paramedics, the foreigner, a U.S. citizen whose identity was not released to the public, had been lifeless for more than 24 hours due to his state of rigidity.

Police has to force their way into the hotel, and proceeded to seal off the exits and safeguarded the scene, waiting on agents of the Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) to arrive to commence the investigation and remove the body.

By late afternoon, after 5:00 pm, authorities indicated of an apparent suicide, due to several ‘farewell’ notes found in the room.
