Review of Hotel Fortuna:

I stayed at the Hotel Fortuna in downtown La Fortuna for 4 nights on March 27/2017. I booked the hotel on expedia.ca for $53.00 per nite CDN taxes included. Paid in full ahead of time. The hotel is located just off the downtown strip for an easy walk. Hotel has 4 floors, elevator, front side rooms has a volcano view with balcony. I had room 303 a backside corner room for a mountain view. Side rooms have no balconies. My room was a standard queen medium sized with TV, modern A/C, electronic safe, small balcony, very large bathroom for wheelchair accessible. Rooms are electronic card entry. Fee of $10.00 USD for lost room card. The hotel has its own free parking lot. The safe in room requires a key code and a key, plus a $20.00 USD deposit to use the safe which you get back once you return the safe key at checkout. Daily maid service plus breakfast is included usual tico style (cafe, OJ, fruits, scrambled eggs, toast, rice/beans). Free Wifi.

I took the Interbus shuttle from SJ which was a good move for me. I was thinking a rental car but glad I talked myself out of it. Roads north of San Ramon are extremely curved with hair-pin turns and bridges. Total time was 3 hours including a 20min rest stop. Larger buses seem to creep along plus if they get stuck behind trucks it adds to the travel. Shuttles pass and move quickly.

Room with a balcony
Friendly staff
Recycle bins on every floor
Strong wifi internet service great for streaming NHL hockey games!

Dislikes:
Small old style tube TVs in the room ceiling mounted in corner
Room had no chairs just 1 stool
No ice machine
No bar in the hotel
Definitely NOT chica friendly

My POV...I would stay there again for its location and price.
