Planning another trip for March Madness opening weekend, which overlaps with St Patricks Day too. (Mar 13-18)

Passport expires July 2 of this year. Thoughts? I should be ok right?

There has been some input on this passport subject recently, but to be safe I would get a new passport because you will be inside the 6 month window of your passport expiring!! Seriously

That is the way I was leaning. I'd hate to be turned away at the doors of Paradise because of a simple issue. Thsnk you!

Technically, if you are coming from the U.S. (group 1 country), the passport must be valid for 1 day. (I think it means at least the day you enter CR). But each Immigration official will interpret it the way the want to. I would make sure your passport is valid for 6 months from the date you enter CR.

Quote:

That is solely from the foreign country's POV. It is illegal for a US citizen to travel on an expired passport, and can lead to seizure of said passport, and require an entirely new application process (rather than just the renewal process). When you return to the US, make sure your passport is still valid.

I would renew it before you head there. It didn't take that long and if you have your old passport it's so much easier. Also, get the passport card, it's only like 30 or 40 bucks more and you can use it to travel to the Bahamas but not to CR or any other country, but it might come in handy one day, you never know.

You can use the passport card for ship travel (Caribbean for sure) and road (Canada & Mexico) border crossings.
