Review of Hotel El Maragato: I stayed here for 4 nights in Nov/2016 at $45.00 USD per night cash deal all in. This hotel was recommended by a fellow Canuck from Yellowknife NWT who has stayed here for many years usually 3 weeks at a time. The hotel is a 8 floor building with 6 rooms per floor having 3 rooms facing central ave and 3 rooms facing the back side. Hotel is located right downtown across from the Gran Casino entrance on central ave a few feet from the water fountain. I stayed in room 702 and had a great view of the SJ mountains. It also has a 10 bed hostel on the 3rd floor for $10.00 USD per night. I only saw one backpacker at the hotel during my stay. On the 3rd floor is the restaurant open for breakfast only. Has 2 PCs on the 3rd floor for use. One was working the other dead. The working PC was very outdated Windows so only good for checking emails. My room was a large size with a queen bed, 30” flat screen TV wall mounted, large bar frig pre-stocked with beer/pop/snacks for a fee. Had a modern wall mounted a/c with remote, large desk & electronic safe. Free Wifi in each room. Free breakfast including a selection of tropical, american or continential served at your table. Basically included coffee, orange juice, fruits, either eggs or pancakes with rice/beans. The breakfast menu also has about 15 other items you can order for a fee like; ham, milk, cheese, beef steak, pork chop, sausage, corn flakes, jams....etc. Web site http://www.hotelmaragato.com Pros: - no chica fee, no sign-in - a popular place for tico families to stay - staff are english speaking and provide great service and info - comfortable & clean atmosphere, maid service every day - 2 elevators with one dedicated for wheelchair access - day manager is on-site to help with any needs - bottled water coolers on every 2nd floor Cons: - cannot bring chicas back to your room during the day when the manager is working. But no problem at night when he's gone. I personally only use MPs, so not a problem for me. - TV cable (SkyOne) only had 2 english channels (MTV music, BBC Entertainment) - taxi can't drive up to the front door so they drop you at the National Threatre ave 2,calle 3 - hand sanitizing dispensers on every floor, but were empty - smokers have to go out to the street My POV.....I would definitely stay there again based on location & quality of the rooms. |

I had a comfortable queen size bed. Room 702 was on the backside of the hotel so noise not an issue for me during the day or night. Front side rooms would of course get the central ave noise of vendors but by 9pm ish the street is empty/quiet. |
