I looked at them previously, but i got annoyed at the ongoing upcharges and decided the 1 am flight out of Houston wasnt worth saving a cien |

I used Spirit a couple of times, and avoid it like the plague now. For travel in Latin America and the US I use COPA and Avianca exclusively. |

I've had no problems on the couple of flights I've taken with them. I just booked a feb 2017 return to cr with them today. What kind of problems have you experienced? |

I am a half hour drive from Fort Lauderdale. They have non-stops to both SJO and MDE. The seat does not recline, but who cares? It is less than three hours. I do not check in bags, I bring my own snack, I pay for the exit row seat. I take a sleep aid/pain killer, spend most of the flight asleep, wake up when we start descending. I save between $200 and $300 on a flight. I use their credit card for as much as possible, get two miles per dollar I spend, and I get a free flight every year. |

Flown Spirit on at least 30 RT's to CR and MDE (direct, no connecting flights). No real issues to make me stop using them. |

I understand how the nickel and dime add ons can be pain, the non- reclining tight seats are uncomfortable, and sometimes late night arrivals are hard , but I have flown Spirit a few dozen times to CR, DR, Colombia, and Panama essentially, without incident. My upcoming return to Cuba in Dec is only $289 from Detroit, baggage fee included --as opposed to $725 on Delta, American. I'm not that good at math, but that's twice as much. |

I first flew Spirit in 2008. The first three or four trips were good, without incident. I always booked an exit row seat. Then the problems started...increased fees, inconsiderate personnel, extremely slow check-in for the return flights, etc. I've haven't flown them since. |

I used to fly Spirit quite often to MDE and SJO. I never had a problem with the on-board crew. I knew what they charged extra for, and avoided those charges, other than the baggage charge. I never paid extra for a seat, and in more than 80 flights, only one time was I in a middle seat. The breakup point for me was on a trip returning from SJO. The flight was late arriving in SJO, thus was late leaving. I arrived in FLL 65 minutes before my scheduled connecting flight departed. We sat on the tarmac for more than 10 minutes waiting for a gate. I then waited 40 minutes for my bag, which was not on the plane. They waited until all bags were claimed to tell us that some bags did not arrive. I have Global Entry which got me through immigration fast, but it did not help to get me through security. By the time I got through security, the connecting flight had departed. It was late in the evening, and that was the last flight to MCO. I talked to numerous Spirit personnel (including a supervisor) at the airport, and they refused to provide any compensation because there was at least an hour between flights. I wrote a letter to Spirit and told them if they did not provide some type of compensation, I would not renew my $9 Fare account, nor my Spirit credit card, and would never fly on their aircraft again. They gave me 5,000 miles, which was not enough for even one leg of a flight. I already had over 16,000 miles in my account, and that was not enough for a trip. I told them 5,000 was not sufficient, and now I do not have any paid account associated with Spirit, and I have not flown with them since, and I will never fly with them. |

One thing I can testify to about Spirit is their absolute willingness (and eagerness) to cancel flights. With the volcano erupting the last few months, it's been quite revealing to see which airline ALWAYS cancels while other airlines make it even though they all should have left about the same time from the same (or very close) airport. |

The first time I flew Spirit, the leg from FLL to MCO was canceled, and we had to wait 6 hours for a rebook to ACY. The second time, we boarded in FLL and then were told to re-board on another plane (with less seats). Obviously, the process of re-boarding was a cluster-fuck, and was further exacerbated by the fact that the gate agent was using a manual passenger list. Plus, when you add all the extra dollars for carry-ons, checked luggage, decent seats, etc., Spirit is not that much of a bargain. Spirit may work for some, but it doesn't work for me. |

Just made reservations for MDE. Used a 35k of my accumulated miles, paid for a 2nd bag to go into the overhead compartment (your 1st, personal-sized bag is free), paid for an exit row seat, and the tax. Total for a non-stop trip from FLL to MDE: $183. Between using their card for everything, flights, and purchasing flights, the miles add very quickly. I think every 4th flight I take, I use miles. |

Although I am awaiting a response from Spirit, my recent return trip from Havana was the worst experience in 16 yrs. Very soon I may be an official convert to the " Spirit Sucks Club " |
