I have been looking at NYC-MDE fare on Avianca (non-stop on way back) for a couple of weeks, it was holding at $392 which is pretty good. I was undecided, but finally decided to book it on Sunday. As of yesterday, the same flight is now $875. :D

Lesson learned, when you see a good fare book it because it can change quickly. And check frequently when high because it can also drop very quickly.

$392 R/T JFK? Haven't seen prices like that in years! Is that the Avianca flight that goes non-stop?

Yes, Avianca. It's a 1:20 layover in BOG on the way there, and non-stop on the way back. Leaves JFK 1:10am, arrives MDE 8:17am. Then leaves MDE 11:30pm, arrives JFK 6:00am.

Yeah, it must have been a sale or something and it last a few weeks I was thinking about it and deciding for a couple weeks. Then I pulled the trigger and it doubled+ the next day.

Avianca has a new 787 which they run to JFK from Bogota but I'd rather take the non-stop. I'll get to ride the 787 some other time. It's the only plane currently in service that I have not flown in, except a couple small Embraers.

Flights to MDE have sucked for the last year. Most arrive late at night, usually around 11:00PM. Its shoots your first day. Only options for first night are usually strip clubs since you dont arrive at your place until 12:30-1:00AM. American and Avianca have a few that get in a reasonable hour. Spirit has a flight out of FLL that gets in a 1:15 PM.

The nice thing about clearing customs in BOG on your way to MDE is that you "clear customs" without ever touching your bags in BOG. When you arrive in Medellin, it's a quick exit out of one of the national terminals without dealing with Migracion or DIAN.

Copa has flights from Miami, Orlando, and Tampa with a stop in Panama that arrive in MDE at 1:26pm. They also fly from other cities in the US, but I did not check those times.

Fly copa out of Chicago regularly. 8-9 am outbound (depending on daylight savings) stop in Panama and arrival at mde 5pm.

Return departs mde 3:19pm. Home at 11pm (12am daylight savings).

Yep, crazy how up and down prices are. It seems to help if your plan is flexible date wise. I usually check prices over a one or two month time frame, then find the sweet spot. Worked for me so far. Still crazy, you can easily pay double. Mat
