Stayed in rm 209 on my Inagural Gultch visit. Queen rm, no A/C, hard to sleep past 630-7am with kitchen/dining area noise. Trip 2 coming up and I would like a King room with A/C away from the dining/kitchen area. The Train does NOT bother me. 8) What do my fellow Mongers recommend? Thanks!

Personally, I like room 201. It is by the train but that does not bother me. There is no window in the bedroom, so it gets real dark and easy to sleep.

Ever since the Presidente pulled the plug, I have made Amistad my home when in CR and never looked back. And I have stayed at many many places there, taco hotels included.

I have stayed at most in Amistad...I like them all but....the one near the kitchen. I had to stay there once for one night and was terrible. The smell of food seeps through the walls, and the noise, forget about it. For me, Amistad is my home when I am there so I didn't mind one night of it. I couldn't do a whole trip in that room, though. That's what I love about the Amistad staff, they scrambled to get me back to a better room after 1 night.

I have stayed in all the suites and they are awesome, however, the best nights I ever got of sleep there was an interior room, no windows....and quiet. I think one doesn't even have a/c and still stays cool, dark, quiet and makes for a great night.

Room security is the most important to me in selecting a hotel. I travel with a lot of cash and my computer and like to know it is safe. I have even left my safe open with cash in plain sight, and when I got back, my room was cleaned and nothing touched. Trust goes a long way....maybe the longest.

I stayed at Hotel La Amistad for the first time on my most recent trip to the gulch. Loved it. It's only about a block away from the Sportsman's Lodge, but a bit of a hike from the Del Rey should you decide to fore go the taxi. The rooms are pleasant (though unspectacular), but the common areas are a big plus. The bar and sitting area are superb and the food is exceptional. Most of the menu (and some well drinks) come as part of the all inclusive package (which I highly recommend paying the extra money for).

If you want a change of pace from the food at the hotel, you can always sample the selection of excellent restaurants in the area. Try Coma Verde about a block and a half from the hotel on Av. 9A Between Calle 15 and 17.
