You are correct, the Bailey bridge (a TEMPORARY bridge) they installed about 6 years ago collapsed under the (substantial) weight of two dump trucks crossing it at the same time. The route from San Ramon to Arenal is closed. MOPT says it will take a month to open it back up. That is really strange as I know in WW2, engineers could install a new Bailey bridge in a matter of hours.
http://insidecostarica.com/2015/11/12/r ... collapses/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailey_bridgeTo get to Arenal, you will now need to take Routa 141 through Naranjo and Quesada. This route does present the opportunity to stop in Zarcero and see the sculptured hedges in the park in front of the Church.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZarceroYeah, that is right PVT…it wasn't ticos that were installing those bridges in WW2, they were British, Canadian and American military engineering units. You live there, you know how it is!
