Post subject:  Hotel Paradise (hourly hotel)

My latest trip I arrived around midnight on a Thursday. So I tried out some alternative lodging and would then transition to a regular hotel.

Trotted up to Hotel Paradise which is literally right across the street from the south entrance to HDR.  Upstairs at the 1st landing I ring the bell and explain to the desk lady what I want.  Minimal english so be able to articulate what you want in spanish.  She buzzed me in and asked to see ID.  I then paid 10K for the night and had the room until noon Friday. Essentially a 12 hr rental.

Very basic quarters as shown in the photos.  This ain't the ritz and for about $20 I had managed expectations going in.  Cleanish for what it is, although it was clear virtually every part of the room had been used as an ashtray at some point in time.  Did not see any critters during my stay.

Upon check in I was given: the key, tv remote, a blanket, and a bar of soap.  TV remote did not work, which I didn't care about.  Full sized bed and two pillows had thin, but clean linens.  Mattress seemed to be some type of vinyl wrapped foam.  I found it comfortable.  The 2 bath towels were not much bigger than hand towels.  No safe to secure valuables.  I was able to get reasonably warm water out of the suicide shower when run at low pressure.  No AC, just a fan.  Not a problem for me; the night was cool and it actually got a bit chilly in the room.  Daytime it is probably a sweat box.

I was in room 15.  No windows but I believe it faces the street given the noise.  It was probably about 2:30 - 3:00 am when I was done for the night.  I got very little sleep before departing around 9:00 am.  Probably a combination of the noise, being amped up about being back in SJ, and some other factors I'll detail in my TR.

So that's Hotel Paradise.  Would I stay again? No, for the following reasons.

1)  It left me without a room until afternoon the next day.  Which would have been nice to have so I caould relax, nap, get organized, etc. Suppose I could have booked a day trip to skirt this issue.

2)  The extra $ even for just a few hours of comfort/sleep is not going to deplete my bankroll enough to matter.

3)  Rushing to get my fiesta on right away didn't work out.  I'll detail that in my forthcoming TR.  Next time I'll just call the first night a wash and hit the next day rested and ready.

Bano - toilet is out of frame at left. Take my word, it looked just like a toilet.

Good report. Love the adventure aspect. This is what makes CR so special. You can stay clean and you can sleep. What else does a man need in CR? Yeah, I know......

Quick addendum to my "no" list above.

You can expect difficulty bringing chicas from HDR there. Apparently HDR has some beef with the place and will ban/suspend chicas they catch going in. An HDR security camera faces the Paradise Hotel. I thought this to be a myth. Myth busted based on my experience.

Exit with your chica on the West side, taxi around the entire block and approach Paradise from thr East. Stop in front and go straight in. They are not watching for this, only watching for girls walking straight to it.
