I am arriving at about midnight and i was looking for a cheap place to sleep near HDR. I prefer LA but since I am arriving so late it does not make sense to pay for a nice hotel just to sleep in. The quality really does not matter. Just looking for cheap. The next day I will go to LA and enjoy their accomodations

Hotel Morazán is a short block away from HDR, and its site is advertising rooms starting at $45.

Beside the Little Marlin there is a short term hotel (Queens or Paradise). For a couple of hours its about 5500 colones. Maybe 10000 for half day. That should get you through until your regular hotel is ready the next day. Ask for a room off the street. Quieter and warmer.

Unless someone comes up with something even better I am going with your suggestion. Can't be any closer. I can stumble there from HDR. I saw a place called Asia on Cuba Dave but it doesn't show the prices

Don't go to Hotel Asia. The cockroaches don't want to be there.

Directly across Avenida 1 from the HDR entrance is a short term hotel. The name is Hotel Paradise.

The rooms are reasonably clean, with a hot shower in the room and clean sheets and towels. There is a porn channel on the flat screen TV in the rooms. It is open 24 hours. A lot of their business includes gringos with chicas for a couple of hours.

The hourly and nightly rates are posted on a big sign on the sidewalk. Don't hold me to it, but 2 hours may be 13,000 ($26) and a night may be 20,000 ($40). You walk up one flight to get to the desk. The rooms are one and two MORE flights up the stairs. The rooms on the "inside", away from the street, are the most quiet, but may not have windows.

As was said, stay away from Hotel Asia. But another option is Hotel Diana, across the park from the front of the Holiday Inn Aurola. Hotel Paradise is better than Hotel Diana.

In addition to rooms, Hotel Diana also features low budget massage, hair cutting, mani and pedicure, etc., if you have any interest in that. Rooms were around $40 to $50 per night when I priced them in August. I never stayed there, but I used some of their spa services, which I thought were adequate for the price.

That might be a good option but I plan to drink a lot and I don't want to wake up and find my money and passport gone.

Rac, do you know if the Paradise has AC? I'll be returning to CR in a few weeks but will be staying at an apartment away from the gulch. It might be more convenient for me to use the Paradise than to taxi back an forth with a chica.

No A/C at the Paradise Hotel.......... but I believe that all or some of the rooms have fans.

I'm from Florida.... I HATE the heat. But I don't mind that A/C is not common in the SJ area. I'd need it at sea level (Jaco) , but not in the mountains.

It has been a few years since I stayed at Hotel Paradise. The short term rate for a few hours was equivalent to the HDR elevator fee of ¢5.500. I don’t remember if it had A/C but it was damn cold in there one night.

Last weekend they had a sign downstairs advertising a promotion.

Night = ¢10.000
Weekly = ¢60.000 (7 nights)
Check In 2:00 pm
Check Out 12:00 pm

Thanks for the info Rac and LocoGringo. I'll give the place a try and hope its cool enough. A ceiling fan should be good. On the plus side at least I won't have to chica proof my apartment if I use Hotel Paradise :D

Nothing really to add here, but I had 2 HDR chicas tell me that they were not 'allowed' to go to Hotel Paradise by the HDR. Didn't know why, but said straight up that they wouldn't go there in case someone at the HDR was watching. No clue ... I'm just reporting it.

And YES! Asis has some pretty amazing BFB's ... (Big Fukin Bugs)!

The HDR doesn't like girls working girls from HDR going to Hotel Paradise, or even working at SL, for some reason. The rumor on the street is that HDR has a camera trained on the entrance of Hotel Paradise.

Some guys will take a girl to the hamburger joint on the corner for a meal or for something to drink, or to the AM/PM down the hill ...... then to Hotel Paradise. A similar "diversionary tactic" is used when leaving Hotel Paradise. They say this is enough to distract the camera operator, and avoid any banning of the girl from HDR.

Also, if you're the last client of her day, it's likely she won't have a problem with HDR on another day.
