Just wondered if its something people do. I'm lookin for additional miles on AA for a trip to BKK. I know you can gift miles to someone else, so I assume there wouldn't be any problems with it.
Anyone done that sort of thing?

You can buy miles from American Airlines, directly in the aa.com website...unless you need a few thousand miles to claim an award, in most cases, it is not economically advantageous, considering the cost.

I don't think you are allowed to "sell miles" to a third party.

I'm currently making out my will, power of attorney etc. I have 300k + miles with United. If I leave them in my will to a certain party will it cost them more than their worth to get them due to transfer fees etc.???

Correct on that...you don't leave them in your will. What you do is leave access to your miles account to your beneficiary. That way he or she can claim tickets or benefits as if it were you until it runs out or expires...

Did this when my dad passed away...worked out real well!

There is a big promotion now with AA when you buy miles. Check their site. I have used AA miles in the past. Do your homework and you will find there are good bargains out there. The availability on flights changes daily. The last time I went to Argentina from Chicago the flight cost about $700.00 with miles purchased. If you want to buy or sell from another person, it is seamless. Also, if I remember correctly, once you make a res, you can change it with no cost, if you find a better connection is available, as long as the cities don't change.

bandon is absolutely correct & it's the smartest way to pass on your air miles. Your United account can be used to book award tickets for anyone if you have the required info for that person. I do it all of the time & just used my miles to book a ticket for a buddy to CR over Labor Day.
