When I made a reservation online today Avianca said they would review and send a email confirmation if everything was OK. Has anyone had any difficulty with them sending the email ticket? I don't recall them doing this last year.

You should receive an e-mail confirmation within 4 hours after buying your ticket. The number for the US call center is 1 800 284 2622. Call them, and give them the 6 digit alphanumerica reservation code... ask for the status of your ticket. If everything checks out, ask them to send you the e-mail confirmation.

Well, the 4 hrs timeframe Indicated by my notification email is now 18 hours. I did call and they did say sometime this afternoon. Last year it was instant e-ticket. Wonder the reason why??

Living here in Colombia... I am used to all sorts of "system failures"... whether it is at the bank, at the EPS, at the Secretaria de Transito or Migracion Colombia... there are always "system failures" beyond the control of the mortals sworn to provide service to the customer...

Funny you mention it….the same thing happens in Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, Brazil….and I'm sure, the rest of latin america. That's why I tried but after a while could not live there anymore! :? :) :D

Kudos to those of you who adapt and can philosophically handle the stress

I got a confirmation from them the day after I made a res. Look into their first class upgrade program. You can "bid" on a first class upgrade and you have nothing to lose. If they have open seats you win, but if they do not accept your bid you lose nothing.

Hey Whitecat is that only if you book directly with them or is that available to those who book w other sites?

It's been 24 hrs and still nothing so I called them and the said maybe 72 hrs from now. We shall see. Kind of ridiculous. Heck maybe I would get it faster just calling them on the phone! This is all kind of weird because last year I got an eTicket immediately.

Post subject:  Re: Avianca Reservation Confirmation?

I got a second confirmation email that said to call them within 12 hours or they cancel the reservation. So I called them and after answering a bunch of confirmation questions I did receive the e-ticket a short time later. The process us almist enough to make me use a different airline next time.
But my actual flying experience with them a year ago was good with a very short layover in San Salvador. Also, they fly out of San Francisco and there are no other stops in the United States which is nice since I live in the San Francisco Bay area. Once flying back I stopped in Denver enroute to the San Francisco airport and was given the 3rd° and almost missed my flight back.
