This trip wasn't on the radar earlier but now I'm looking at a trip to San Jose out of the San Francisco airport. I can only spend four or five nights so I'm looking at the midnight flight September 4 and returning Wednesday, September 9. That would be five nights. I like Avianca because of its flight from San Francisco without any other stops in the United States. However the flight is $800. It's never cheap from San Francisco but seems like generally gets around $600 or a little less. Is it $800 because of the Labor Day weekend or because the flight is only about six weeks away? Any other ideas for getting a cheaper flight or should I just bite the bullet and buy it now? That is really all day only timeframe I can work right now for four or five nights.

Thanks.

$540 on Aeromexico

9/4
11:01p SFO 10:28a SJO 10h 27m 1 stop (MEX)

9/9
11:38a SJO 9:28p SFO 10h 50m 1 stop (MEX)

2.5 hour layover each way, not bad for Aeromexico.

$540 KAYAK
$540 Webjet
$541 JustFly
$551 eDreams
$575 Priceline
$578 Aeromexico

Lived in the Bay Area for many years....travelled to CR many different routes. It is never easy or cheap. Not like it is from the East coast.

I tend to fly American because of elite mileage status perks. This entails going thru DFW or MIA. I leave on a red eye from Seattle to Miami, then connect on an early am flight from Miami to SJO arriving around 11am. This way you do not lose a day traveling and fly mostly at night. But that's because I'm married to American and their free upgrades to first/business class!

In general, your best bet now might be to try to get the cheapest flight down to LAX and hook up with the Delta red eye, non stop to SJO...I've herad good things about this option.

Thanks for the information guys. I guess I have to decide if I want to cut it one night short and go with the cheaper flight or pay extra having the convenience of flying in and out of San Francisco only. Since I'm a little constrained by time call me I hate the thought of missing extra day. Somehow five nights seems OK and four not so much. LOL.

I'm not attached to any single airline. Just trying to decide if the extra two or 300 I save would be worth the hassle instead of just biting the bullet and flying out of San Francisco at 800 bucks.

Actually, this doesn't look too bad. Anyone have any experience flying this route or on this airline? Guess what I would do is actually leave on the evening of September 3. Have to check to see if there is a similar route.
