I was there in February and did not see a large contingent for p4p. This may have changed, but it is a long drive from San Jose to Tamarindo. Much shorter drive for the girls to go to Jaco

Tamarindo is a cool beach area and if you want to get with the locals it is going to be because they like you. It will take having a working knowledge of Spanish though and it will take some work as well but there are ladies there. I would think you might have a decent chance at hooking up with some foreign vacationing women though but that will take time at the bars and who wants a gringa anyway. The town itself is small but nice, I enjoyed it more than Playa Flamingo as it had a better vibe to me. Not sure about where to stay but rent a car and go check it out. I will be going back probably in January.

llv4play, How far is Tamarindo by bus from SJO? Are the beaches prettier than Monteverde?

Monteverde is a cloud forest. What beaches would you be talking about? Tamarindo is about 6-7hrs by bus. Nature Air and Sansa both fly there.

If you are interested in visiting any of the beach town in Guanacaste (Tamarindo, Flamingo, Nosara, Samara, etc), fly from SJO on Nature Air for as low as $59 each way, plus taxes.

Just make sure you pay attention to the baggage weight restrictions on some of the cheaper fares.

The baggage rate charges are real, see below:

This is for Nature Air:

Fare/Class Checked Bag Allowance
Flex 40 pounds
Promo 27 pounds
Loco 15 pounds

Excess weight
Charge
1 to 5 pounds
$7
6 to 15 pounds
$20
16 to 30 pounds
$40
31 to 60 pounds
$60

Sansa Air gives you 30 lbs.
Excess Baggage Charge

Anything exceeding the free baggage allowance is considered as excess baggage and can only be transported by paying an additional fee for it. Overweight and additional baggage is transported subject to available space on the plane. Additional charge applies per pound: $1.00 USD.

Alfaro is the company that operates the busses between San Jose and Tamarindo, I heard it takes 5 hours.
