I was in SJO last weekend and sort of had an interesting situation on American Airlines. I booked my ticket to SJO on their website about 3 months ago. At the time of booking I selected my seats and that was that. Occasionally over the previous month I would checked on AA.com to see if I could improve my seating. It showed , on the change seats prompt, only about 3-4 available seats going to and coming from SJO. However on the day before the flight it showed about 30 seats available and I was able to improve my seating. The same scenario repeated itself on the return flight. Each way the flights were about 75% capacity even though the advance booking made it look like 95% or more of capacity .

Now I have read in some of your previous post that you are a financial guy not a travel guy. However, I have a feeling that you may have some close friends who are travel guys. Is American Airlines playing games with their website seat selection to make the flights look booked to increase their fares or is it some other factors? Thanks in advance.

ps. If you see Speedy1 arounf town send him my regards. :D 8)

Is it speedy or speedy1? Obviously my style of speech or writing is similar to somebody who is "famous" here. Seriously, I have no clue.

I don't know much at all about the travel biz, so I asked Jerry. Here's the answer. Seats and tickets get bought, reserved, changed and cancelled all the time. This is why flights are sometimes "overbooked." If an airline only sold as many tickets as there are seats on the flight, the flight would leave half-empty, most of the time. I don't know the details. He tried to explain it to me, but then my brain started to hurt, so I stopped listening to him.

Also. Arghhh! I didn't know there was a post limit. I do want to get my VIP membership, but I don't have a credit card with me! I know! A finance guy without a credit card! Well, there is a reason for that. They don't take PayPal?

I asked my friend, and he told me "You're not using my credit card on some Gringo Sex Site." I'm going to try to steal a credit card from someone else.

Yeah, pretty funny watching this guy try and pass himself off as a new poster. I suspect we all figured he'd eventually be back after his last meltdown. Why can't people just be forthcoming about these things. Anyway, good to have you back and posting Speedy!
