There's more on the Home page of their Site. Not that it's a lot of interest to Our Crowd, but flights to Liberia too. http://www.alaskaair.com/

Can't be direct because of the number of hours listed…even with the different time zone it does not make sense. 8:40am to 4:30pm is too long, flying due Southeast.

I am pretty sure these will be non-stops. From the Alaska Airlines website it says depart 8:40 LAX time on October 31 (no daylight savings so 2 hour difference). That would be a 10:40 (CR time) departure and an arrival at 4:30pm so a 5:50 flight. The Delta non-stop has a listed flight time of 5 hours 50 minutes as well.

So yes, it looks to be a non-stop from LAX available four days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat). Only problem is both Delta and Alaska will be arriving during rush hour traffic but the Alaska will be the worst. Might take at least an hour and possible two to get from the airport to downtown during that time frame.

Here is the Tico Times article:

And the Alaskan Airlines article on their website:

Stand corrected PVT...your refined calculations seem to make sense.

I think the departure time from LAX and the arrival time into SJO, as you point out, couldn't be worse. Unless you live in So. CA making that early am connection into LAX is virtually impossible (I'm coming from Seattle) only to arrive into a mess of a traffic jam in the autopista to San Jose. Then the return flight, which is scheduled to be convenient for them to turn around the plane as quickly as possible, arrives into LAX too late to make any connections...in other words, this only works for LA passengers.

For the rest of the west coast is back to connecting via TX or FLA. Not much help!

Didn't do the math on the non stop but getting up that early and arriving in rush hour is a drag
I'll take the Avianca red eye w a stop in Guatemala or El Salvador arriving around 930am and having the whole day in front of me.
But competition is always welcome...
