With all the stories about lost and stolen things from hotels, I really needed to report this.

I left a bank envelope containing $600 US on the shelf in my room last night, as I was hurriedly packing. It was meant to be the last thing I grabbed, but I missed it and did not realize until after I had unpacked at home this morning.

A call to the desk told me that the maid had already turned it into security, and that it had been counted, recorded against my passport number, and stored in the casino safe.

NOT LOST OR STOLEN! And to be honest, I deserved to lose it due to stupidity and lazyness.

This is the second time I have been impressed with the 'above and beyond' service I have received from the room staff at HDR. I will not hesitate to stay there on future trips.

Too often we hear about the scammers and thieves, but not about honest people we encounter. It would have been easier for the maid to pocket that money and not told anyone. She showed a sense of honesty and morality by doing what she did. I hope she will be there when you return so you can thank her in person.

You are a lucky man BD...regardless!

In my over ten years of staying at HDR, I have gotten to know many of the maids that work the different floors. Most of them have worked there for many years...in all cases they have been very helpful with all requests and always willing to accommodate their room cleaning schedule to my Chica routines. They are definitely the type of hotel staff that would return your $$ envelope to management!

Perhaps a nice $100 reward would be appropriate upon your return...don't your think so?

Since staying at the delrey over the last year ( 4 weeks total ) maids have been great as they remembered me after my first trip,,,, front desk ( lady , not sure of her name handles 90% of my check in and out so I feel comfortable dealing with her and transactions ,,, no drama )

I read so many haters on this site and most have never stayed a night there....it took me 9 years to pull the trigger , paying $50 or $55 for a clean room with great Internet in the belly of the beast.....I have had hotel bills of over $900 in other hotels in the gulch for 7 nights and said never again ...stayed at the rey for 2 nights at the end of a trip and enjoyed it ...as 95% of days and nights our meet up spot is the delrey ...just less drama getting taxis , enough places to eat within walking distance

Since we play tute in the casino our drinks are free , the chica fee is really the only bump in the road but after the end of the trip I am happy with paying for the experience I get from staying there.

it's a TEHO thing, Chili. The beds SUCK!!! Zona is better, and LA is tops (ain't never stayed at SL yet).

I would expect the same 'honesty' thing from those places as well.

I have been a del rey advocate for years. Nice to see people agree. Haters always going to hate.

It makes all the difference when you have the peace of mind knowing your stuff is safe. Even in the safe. That is why I am loyal to LA and, back in the day, El Presidente. Many times I left my safe wide open in each, cash laying there, maids went in and touched nothing. Glad you got your dough back. Now had you left it in a taxi.........hahaha

I have been a devoted Del Rey man since 2005, love staying in the belly of the beast, maid service was always great, one time I complained because the a/c above mine was dripping on my a/c, couldn't sleep, Chinese water torture. The repair man came to my room, listened to it, agreed and in 10 minutes they had me in a new room.

Many other hotels are great, but if you like a reasonably priced hotel where all the action is, safe, no going out at night needed, HDR is your place.

Once, just after checking in to the HDR, I introduced myslef to the maid -- I believe her name was Anna -- and gave her a trinket-bracelet that couldn't have cost me more than two bucks. On a subsequent visit to the HDR, I was introducing myself to the maid when she pointed out that she already knew me from my previous visit. She said she wanted to show me something, and led me down the hall to an employee breakroom, where she proudly took from her locker the small bauble I'd given her a year before, brandishing it as if it were a diamond bracelet! Not exactly an Anthony Bourdain moment, but close enough...

A little kindness, appreciation and respect go a very long way with the people that make our vacations/visits pleasant and do not make anywhere near $cien and hour.

For those who haven't tried it, I highly recommend you do on your next trip! You'll be glad you did.

Bandon- got to agree 1000% with you about treating the staff at the hotels and restaurants with respect and kindness. I would also include the security staffs as well. Considering where these folks work they have probably seen or heard some interesting stories.
They can literally make or break your stay in terms of comfort and cleanliness of your room. A small gift goes a long way, nothing fancy just a show of appreciation.

As a guy who has not had even a beer much less a bottle of booze...in the last 15 year(in the us),,, only drink while on vacation, , so on a normal trip after arriving at the airport 1st stop is the duty free shop anywhere from 3 to 5 bottles of different booze...
Before checking out ,I will bring the maid in that has been taking care of my room and offer any liquor, snacks or candy that I have left over...they are so appreciative I look forward to giving it to them

Bashful, I don't agree with 99.9% of what you post, well that is only because this is the first thing I do agree with you on. Nicely shared. And for the first time I can say I respect your stance as it being your fault leaving it behind or forgetting about it.

I have worked in the hotel industry in CR for many years and now have a vested interest in two large resorts. Employees with that kind of honesty, cr or ANY country is rare. It is actually a signal of great employee loyalty and management that rewards their employees for the honesty.

Congratulations.

Next time you go away from the board, stay away. If you decide to come back, don't drink before posting.
