Spirit is my kind of airline...at least their love of 69. They received their 69th plane today and to celebrate, they have $69 fares through midnight tonight. Here is their statement:

“We've been waiting to hit 69 planes for years. It's our favorite number - ever since we were twelve and found that magazine under our brother's bed (the one with the fantastic articles). #69 is perfect: just the right size, with a cockpit that's in your face (because it's bright yellow). But as usual they do not seem to know they fly into and out of SJO! I get their promotion garbage (in the sense that it is useless if you want to fly to or out of SJO) several times a week it seems like, but they have not included SJO in any promotion that I have seen in over 2 years! SJO/FLL Roundtrip flights during the same timeframe as this promotion are in the neighborhood of $300.

Enjoy their ad jokes, but that's as far I will go with Spirit. For the heck of it, I just priced out a r/t ticket MDE-LGA... it's $520 with no bags, no boarding pass and no seat selection. I booked two r/t tickets MDE-JFK on COPA for the same period, virtually the same itinerary, and it cost me $543 each. The only difference, COPA allows two free checked bags (up to 100lbs) each, free carry-on and personal item, free seat selection (we have Exit row seats), and legacy service (hot meals, complimentary alcoholic beverages, free pillows and blankets and more comfortable seating). IMHO, Spirit is a much bigger joke than its ads.
